Half-Dryad

As you relax in the back of your wagon, escaping the overbearing heat you watch the rolling plains go by, something catches your eye: a figure dangling their feet out the back of one of the other caravan wagons. You didn't really pay attention before, but you notice that while they are distinctly human-like, there is something wrong: their hair doesn't just have flowers in it. Their hair is growing flowers!   Their face is also not quite right. Their black eyes seem human enough, but the cartilage of their features is a little too defined and somewhat wooden. Their dark skin bulges with both muscle and vine. Their forearms are unusually swollen underneath, where hooked claws rest before use. Their shins are wrapped in what look like roots that tuck into their skin. As they whistle, it has the distinct wind-instrument pitch of a dryad.   Dryads call them "Half Humans"; others still call them Orchids; those in their native land of Miuta call them "Kani", meaning "those who are united" in the old tongue.   Half Dryads are a people between worlds. Humans see them as more human; dryads see them as more dryad. Both sometimes see them as uncanny or alien. They can share meals with both communities, and their vocal chords can match either people's pitches. They can have kids with dryads, humans, or both. In human circles, they are often considered aggressively androgynous by default. Dryads consider them rather dour and strange, lacking the volume of flowers or variance in vine color that dryads have. Both are confronted by both the strange and familiar by Half-dryads. Charisma comes quickly to these hybrid children as much by necessity as anything else.   As Player Characters, Half Dryads have the following statistics:
  • +2 Cha, +1 Wis
  • 10 ft tremorsense
  • 1d4 + Strength natural attack via claws
  • Can eat human or dryad food

Basic Information

Anatomy

Half-dryads merge human and dryad physiology perfectly. This can express itself differently, as many have slightly more human or dryad heritage than pulls them one way or another.

Genetics and Reproduction

Half-dryads are by default intersex and can reproduce with humans or dryads.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Half Dryads began as a species in the realm of Miuta, continent of Sonev- most can be found in Sonev, Garadel, Samvara, or Ibith. Others can be found in Ekraht or Southern Desmia. Kobold-borne Half-dryads also crop up wherever Kobolds venture.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Half-dryads may have less developed tremorsense than dryads, but they also have acute human vision and hearing. They keep dryad's advanced senses of smell and taste.
