Desmian language

The Desmian language group is a group of mutually intelligible dialects used South, Central, and Northwest Desmia. Elites in certain parts of Izekra often speak this as well.  It is descended from the sacred language of Orthodox Desmianism, known locally as 'Ancestral' or 'Old Speech', and in foreign lands as 'bloodtongue'.    The Desmian language is largely held together by the traditions of crusading: on crusade, soldiery from across the continent learn to tweak their dialects to be understood by everyone else, and they bring these corrections back home. As long as the Golden Crusade and Amber Crusade keep going, Desmian language will drift together as a unified language in all Orthodox states.    Orthodox states in Izekra and Boram, which focus on their own crusades (the Silver, Emerald, and Pearl crusades, respectively), have similar languages with a great deal of overlap, but aren't necessarily mutually intelligible.

    • -zad: child, descendant
    • -une: one who is
    • -atar: of the lineage of, successor to

    • -dri: the replacement, the new, junior

But the important rule is to have fun.

    How to Generate New Desmian

Generally speaking, Desmian is a combination of Irish and Farsi. While these are linguistically mulched beyond most recognition, you could probably dabble a bit in either Irish or Farsi (ideally avoiding real-world religious names) in a pinch if you needed to. Mulching (smashing words together and mutating them a bit) is an ideal way to avoid incredibly weird cultural signals: no player will understand what you are trying to say when you have crusading blood knight Shah Brian Ali O'Donnell sail up as the new antagonist.
