Quoin
The village of Quoin is precisely arranged—buildings, paths, and plants laid out in grid-like geometry that evokes an isometric, 16-bit sprite-based RPG, replete with evenly spaced flower pots, and tropey RPG options. This aesthetic is revealed to be a local cultural identity. The game itself is a first-person action RPG with immersive 3D traversal and minimal UI outside of combat.
Quoin contains
- the Food Court
- Checkov's Tavern
- other shops
- faction-representative NPCs.
Function
The name "quoin" refers to an ornate brickwork motif along the edge of a building, i.e. "a beautiful corner." Quoin also serves as the game's "beautiful corner" in showing a vertical slice of all features for testing. As such, Quoin has one of everything - each type of shop, potion, character race, etc.
Questline
- The player enters the village of Quoin (pronounced "coin") relatively early in play.
- Many items in shops are far overpriced for the player, due to their level.
- Warden of Quoin
- In gratitude, merchants lower their prices to about market rate. But in dialog, many make a point to remind you that they are doing you a favor.
