The Laws of Gundam - Centennial of a dream

The rules of our real world apply for the most part, with other effects layered on top.
  1. There is no large scale, commercial way of manipulating gravity. So no artificial gravity in ships (unless spin generated or by thrust) and no ships or mecha flying without some sort of thruster/engines.
  2. While spaceships and mecha need fuel for their reactors and engines, and ammunitions for their weapons, this is mostly hand-waved unless used for dramatic effect.
  3. Humans, mecha and ship with "plot armor" can survive extraordinary amounts of damage, but are not immune. The rule-of-cool applies.
  4. Humans in this future has slowly started evolving to adapt to space and technology. These "Newtype" humans are still unconfirmed by many, although science has confirmed that this evolutionary step ispossible. Newtypes are believed to have greater empathy and be more emotionally sensitive. It´s believed that a Newtype could potentially connect with other humans, especially other Newtypes, on a deeper level and understand each others intentions more clearly than can be expressed with words. These abilities are theorized to be psychic in nature.
  5. Humans born in the last century have been proven to be more emotionally intelligent, but no prof of a "Newtype" sub-species has surfaced officially.
  6. There are no confirmations of alien life that we know of in this world.
  7. Fusion reactors were mastered in the beginning of the Dream Century and are now the most common source of power. Newer types of reactors using Ahab waves or Minovsky Particles are in differing stages of development but generally reserved for experimental or military use.

Cosmology

The universe was created millions of years ago as cosmic dust after the big bang. Theorise of the universe creation is essentially the same as it is in our world, with an added, deeper understanding of gravitational waves, particle physics and other high fields of physics.

Principal Geography & Features

  1. Earth is a mix of polluted wasteland, heavily guarded nature reserves and densely populated cities with slums on their outskirts. The last war made an enormous impact on the Earths ecosystem and largely undid the environmental efforts of the previous generations. Most of North America and parts of Western Europe are wastelands caused by several intentional asteroid impacts by Mars during the war.
  2. Earth has several stations in orbit, but only one with a direct space elivator to Earth: Nangija. This was the planned seat of government for the new Dream Century, but it was almost completely destroyed by a supposed terrorist attack by Zeon and left as a monument to the dead by the new goverment.
  3. Terraforming of Mars begun sometime before the great calamity war, but was set back generations by the large amounts of nuclear bombs dropped on Mars in that conflict. The terraforming process is now underway again and has been for the better part of a century.
  4. Temperatures on Mars are cold but survivable, and radiation has been lowered by strengthening the magnetosphere of the planet. A human can walk on the surface of Mars with as little as a rebreather mask and a thick jacket. Liquid water exists but plant life has not yet been introduced. The ground is still a dusty red, but the sky is closer to a dusty blue.
  5. The asteroid belt is sparsely populated but has a relatively large amount of traffic thanks to the asteroid mining operations.
  6. There is little in the way of colonies beyond the belt and only the largest or most specialised industries travel beyond Jupiter and its moons.
  7. Beyond Neptune there are only automated research stations and probes. Few humans ever make the journey out here.

Initial Active Setting

The Solar system, colonised by a handful of larger space stations and the planets. The story will begin on a space station somewhere in between the inner and outer solar system. Not rich but wealthier and larger than most stations this far out in the system, it is an industrial manufacturing colony under Federation control but has little say in Federation politics.
