Nadeshiko Technical Academy

The finest engineering and piloting academy in the asteroid belt, Nadeshiko Technical Academy is a Anaheim Electronics owned school on the corporate space colony of Olbers -P1. While the school is owned and operated by Anaheim Electronics, the school board of directors is comprised of government officials and representatives of other corporations who helps finance the academy.

School Programs

Nadeshiko Technical Academy has a 5 year curriculum, with two major programmes: Engineering and Piloting. The vast majority of students belong to the Engineering program, where students are taught on the basics of math, physics and electronics before selecting a specialization. Nadeshiko Academy´s source to fame is it´s piloting program, here bright young minds are taught not only how to pilot mobile suits, starships and fighter aircraft, but also how to maintain them. The piloting program is intended to train test pilots for the corporations that fund the academy, but it is no secret that many of the best students are recruited by the Federation after graduation.

Student Life

The academy is a dormitory-only school. Most if not all students arrive at Olbers - Colony from other places around the solar system and live at the academy the whole school year. Students are assigned a room, communicator and uniform on arrival and are not allowed off academy grounds during school hours. The academy has everything a student needs however including school clubs, parks and recreational areas and a small assortment of stores for necessities. On weekends and some afternoons students are allowed to leave the academy and do not need to wear their uniforms. Olbers colony is small and has many areas restricted to only Anaheim Electronics personnel, but students still find things to do. A few shops and restaurants in Olbers town exist solely to serve the needs of the academy students although the offerings are still sparse compared to the larger colonies, let alone earth or mars.

Mobile Suit Duels

What started as an combat exercise in the academy's pilot program has today become a school tradition and a popular after-school club. The Dueling club hosts non-lethal mobile suit duels where students face each other in mobile suit combat. The duels can be part of after school practice or a way to handle personal slights and grudges. While most students have access to top of the line mobile suits from their parent company, some less-fortunate are stuck with the mobile suits supplied by the school. Most duels are one on one combat until side manages to destroy the others head mounted antenna, but other setups are allowed as long as there is no risk to the life of the pilots or damage to the colony and school.

History

Nadeshiko Academy was founded by on a Federation initiative in DC0089 with the goal of promoting technical development and education in the mid to outer colonies. The initiative had been on the table in the senate for nearly 60 years but had been buried and forgotten until Celestine Halida lifted the initiative again and drove it through with the senate. Taking little credit for the schools founding, Celestine Halida instead suggested the school should be namned after the original creator of the outer colonies education initiative, Nadeshiko Kagamihara.
