Olbers - P1 Colony

A relatively new colony owned and operated by Anaheim Electronics . The colony is the only one orbiting Pallas asteroid and thanks to its corporate backing is one of the more well-off colonies in the asteroid belt.
Olbers colony was began construction in DC 0072 as a part of Anaheim´s asteroid belt expansion. There were already colonies in the asteroid belt and beyond when construction began, especially around Ceres, but these were deemed unfit by Anaheim´s development council. Olbers was built to serve Anaheim in several ways;
  • To serve as the outer spheres headquarters for Anaheim Electronics and their affiliates
  • Host Anaheim´s space-based research and development division, as well as facilities to build and test new mobile suits
  • Be the location for Nadeshiko Technical Academy , a Anaheim-sponsored institute to teach the next generation of mobile suit engineers and pilots

In media, Olbers colony was also promoted as the first in a new development around Pallas that would increase living standards in the asteroid belt. No more colonies has been built around Pallas by the late DC 0090´s and the project seems to have been abandoned, but the image of Olbers as being the jewel of the asteroid belt has persisted in the minds of those living in the less fortunate colonies of the belt. By extension, working for Anaheim Electronics or being admitted into Nadeshiko Technical Academy is seen as a spacenoid best chance to a better life and maybe even a chance to move to the inner planets one day.
The colony is of the common cylindrical design, but without the large mirrors and glass panels seen on colonies around Earth and Mars. In the asteroid belt the sun is simply to weak to provide enough light and energy to heat the interior of the colony, so Olbers (like most other colonies outside of Mars) instead relies on a megawatt-level artificial sun within the colony to provide light and heating. Olbers as such requires larger reactors to power its life support systems and has several mining outposts on Pallas and nearby smaller asteroids to supply them with materials, including fuel for the reactors. Parts of the colony is still undergoing construction, while other areas are set aside for use by Nadeshiko Technical or Anaheim R&D. This means that only 1/3 of the colony is public space, most of which consists of living spaces, shopping and recreational areas and offices for anyone not Anaheim Electronics.
