Lizardfolk Religion
The myths and legends of the lizardfolk go back for thousands of generations; although, few of the Assarai on Praemal remember much of this. Their imprisonment on this planet has cut them off from their heritage.
It all starts with three brothers: Essyliss, Traebor and Hexalian. Each sprung from a crystalline mote called a primegeniture matrix. Using their power of creation, they each produced a different planet. Essyliss created Sissor (a balanced mix of ecosystems). Traebor created Tressex (a mountain planet) and Hexalian created Gestion (a planet of forests). Millenia later, Hexalian was destroyed by Praemus and his crystal matrix was used as the basis for the prison planet Praemal.
Essyliss married Aquatha, the goddess of water and life. They had a daughter Memory who created the Songs of Ordering and the Songs of Rememberance. The Songs of Ordering were once spells of creation, but most only remember them now as means of sustaining that which is good. The Songs of Rememberance are a vital vocal history of the folk.
Essyliss built a marvelous city of crystal on Sissor called Shard. It rises from the Plains of Bargathon as a mountain of crystal with spires of iridescent glass. This city became the center of learning and civilization for much of the multiverse. In time, its beauty drew the ire of Asmodeus, chief of devils. He could not stand to have such a rival. He sent his minions to attack, starting the Great Demon Wars. The three brothers were united in battle against their foes. Although they could not defeat the forces of Asmodeus, they were able to hold their own.
At one point in the battles, Asmodeus tried to attack Essyliss with his annihilation sphere, but Essyliss caught the devastating mote of nothingness in a spear of crystal, neutralizing its power. This created a powerful weapon that Essyliss gave to his hero Semuanya to wield against the dark forces. This spear is now known as DawnChant.
The god Praemus sought a way to rid his planet of all evil. He devised a plan to create a prison planet, which he named Praemal, to trap evil beings. He needed a primegeniture matrix as the foundation. Since he could not create one on his own, he decided to take one of the lizardfolk gods as his base. He convinced one of Hexaton's governors Sess'innek to help him in exchange for promises of authority in the new creation. Just as the lizardfolk appeared to gain an advantage over the devils, Praemus and Sess'innek struck, killing Hexaton and using his body as the initial building blocks of this new planet. All Praemus' prepared spells fell into place and eons of generation and erosion happened in a moment. Realizing that he needed wardens to guard his prison, Praemus culled sentient species from around the multiverse to seed the planet. Many of Asmodeus' demons and devils were sucked into the trap and captured on Praemal, but also many of Essyliss' people were captured too, including Semuanya. Sess'innek the Betrayer was also betrayed, pushed into the trap by Praemus himself, with the admonishment, "Here you can rule."
The initial generations of Praemal were chaotic as the jumble of peoples sorted themselves out. Semuanya focused on continuing the fight against the devils. Other races put more effort into organizing themselves and creating a new civilization. Sess'innek was condemned by his people and driven away.
