Blackwell

Blackwell is a large town on the edges of The Lonely Forest. It was previously on a route used by many to Norcastle, however since The Dark War, the forest was considered far too dangerous to venture into and locals stopped using the route. Since then, Blackwell is now just a market town, with a strong local community of farmers and tradesmen.

Industry & Trade

The market in Blackwell is a big draw, as well as the relatively new woodcutters.

Infrastructure

The Glass Hare Arms

Modest tavern and inn, providing travellers with lodging and a hearty meal. The tavern is run by Wenberg Burne, while the inn is run by his wife, Elys Burne. Together they form a formidable partnership and have a strong voice in the town. Both were brought up in Blackwell, and are the result of 3 generations of Blackwell folk.

The Sapphire Wand

The inn is a two-storey timber and brick building, with a large cellar. Accommodations consist of several small rooms with beds and woolen mattresses.. The innkeeper is a young female dwarf named Arin. She was once a wealthy aristocrat at Stoneview.

The Gypsy and Chariot

The inn is a small half-timbered building, with a small hedged yard and unusually low ceilings. It is poorly lit by a few tallow candles. Accomodations consist of a single large room with wooden cots and straw mats near the hearth. The innkeeper is a slender female human named Helhe.

Stikron's Tower

A black-rock tower overlooks over the market in the heart of the town. This tower is home to Stikron, a wizard that's rarely seen around town, but intervenes when monsters wander in from the forest, claiming the corpse for investigation. Stikron is a slim, ageing human, not concerned about his appearance or other's perception of him.

Arryn's Anvil

The workshop of a male human blacksmith named Arryn, that tells everyone he was once the best weaponsmith in the kingdom. His brother runs Damon's Furnace.

Damon's Furnace

Fierce rival to Arryn, Damon is also his brother. Both are blacksmiths, and both are good. They'll undercut each other if they need to.

Grom's Woodcutters

James Grom Jr., a relatively new half-orc to Blackwell, settled here two years ago, and provides wood chopping services to the town. Travellers can be weary of him, but locals know to look past the scar over one eye and see the strength he brings to the community.

Blackwell Market

Small market with local merchants and the odd travelling merchant, where most customers are locals. On a good day, customers will find 15-20 stalls here.

The Earth Shrine

A wondrous column of rough granite, said to ward the town against dragons.

Brinkly's Books

Small book shop that traders and travellers stop by to pick up novels or research local areas.

History

Blackwell was entirely untouched by The Dark War, although the last sixty-four years have seen many abomination wander in from The Lonely Forest, sometimes resulting in a tragedy, sometimes providing opportunity for a budding, brave young lad or lass to slaughter their first monster and save the town.

Architecture

Black rock buildings at the centre of town, and new cottages around the outside of town. It all looks pretty gothic.
