Ubar of the Sands

Deep within the Bonelands, lies a city that seems like a mirage when compared to it's surroundings.   Great gleaming towers, lights, and bustling streets glowing like gems amongst the landscape of shattered cities. The new world sprouting from the old.   Should one approach this city, however, they will find that Ubar is much more restrictive of those who pass it's walls. Even traders who have traveled hundreds of miles by convoy, bearing products that would sell for a lifes wages anywhere else, must pass a credit check before the gates will be opened for them. Most don't pass the bar set before them.   For the few that dew, they will find a sight not found anywhere else in the world. The neon of Ubar has captured the mind of those who wish to see it, and those that have alike. For the most part, the city lives up to its legendary reputation, even. Though there's a part of reality that people rarely consider.   Not passing the credit check has been an event that saved a great deal of businesses from bankruptcy, in my day. Did I care at the time? No.   Looking back though, the number of convoys that city ate up, chewed, and spit out was horrifying.   Only the ultra-rich survive a trip to Ubar, and even then they may find their own obsession to purchase.   A graveyard of fortunes.   Many powers have attempted to claim those shattered cities, hoping to claim the bones of the old world for their own. Each has failed, joining the bones around Ubar. For now, and for the foreseeable future, those ruins will be the domain of Ubar and Ubar alone.   Unlike other locations, the mix of M's is relatively even in Ubar. Most every resident keeps their own motor-pool of M's that can do what they wish. Build a new apartment, a nice statue, grow their own supply of personal food or narcotics, sabotage/assassinate their rivals. If there is one model that beats out the others in numbers, it would be Military Models, as there are many personal armies within the walls of Ubar.
