Magic Items, In General

The intellect of Magic...

It is widely held that ALL magical relics (those taken or lost from the holy mountain of Celene), and further ALL magical items created by man (very few, these are) have at least some degree of sentience and self-awareness. These artifacts are so imbued simply because the Eret Si'Nu itself is sentient.   All artifacts (being, specifically, not "single use" or consumable items) are the result of vast quantities of Eret Si'Nu coming together and concentrated into a collective of sorts. The microscopic, magical lifeforms share something akin to a hive mind. The more concentrated, and the larger the quantity, the more self-aware the hive becomes.   Some artifacts and relics represent almost incalculable quantities of Eret Si'Nu, creating hive minds of intelligence nearly incomprehensible to man. Predominantly, relics of such power are those taken from Celene, but it is rumored that a few exist, having been crafted by the hands of powerful, mortal wizards. It seems, however, that none alive have been encountered who can verify the veracity of such claims.

Potions, Scrolls & Other Consumables

This discussion brings up the notion of sentient potables and other consumable items. As far as research has allowed us to conceive of such matters, it seems that the concentrations of Eret Si'Nu contained within potions and scrolls are enough to signal a form of alien awareness, however the prime distinction revolves around the fact that such small concentrations do not allow for sentience of the sort that may communicate with or comprehend that of the "common Gothen."   They may indeed be intelligent, in the same manner that every individual portion of Eret Si'Nu is alive and bears a scant degree of intellect, however it is a "minor" intelligence, and one not comprehendible by man. Further, it is not destroyed from the consumption. Rather, the Eret Si'Nu, and indestructible force, returns to it's former state as "free particles."
