LAW, CHAOS & THE FAITH OF MEN
The Faith Zenithal is a religion, in the eyes of the west. Everything else is but a cult.
There are true gods in the universe. But do they have sentience? Or at least sentience in any form recognizable to us?
Some believe the intelligence behind the Eret Si’nu to be god(s). A substantial leap, as we’ve only recently become aware of its own sentience, and still cannot discern if there are individuals within its matrix, or the entirety of the ether is one massive (singular or unified) intellect.
Law and Chaos are primal forces, and existed before all complex life in the universe. They are the supreme bookends of all creation, representing its constant pendulum swings.
The gods as embodied by the Ulta act merely as “representatives” of the universal laws. In fact none know if true Law or Chaos is either sentient, or if so, even aware of the machinations of life in this universe. This is moot, as their nature is, even by the most hopeful of estimates, beyond alien in nature, and thus inscrutable to man or even his multi-dimensional allies.
The gods are primarily linked to spheres or domains of influence. These are things and concepts man can grasp, and therefore relate to with regards to worship (and with it the Eret Si’nu). Above this, always present yet obscured in the background, are pronounced allegiances to specific sides in the eternal War of the Balance. It is the nature of all “participants” to foster a desire which ignores this balance, seeking to upset it thus in favor of their chosen primordial ideal.
There is a philosophical trend to consider the possibility at least, that the Polarities (as Law & Chaos are collectively referred) might even manifest in our dimension as the Eret Si’nu itself. Perhaps it is no coincidence that we became aware of both the Zenithal and the Ether at a time simultaneous.
Certain mortals have latched onto this unspoken directive, and in their worship now embrace a hard stance, one in line with their primary deity. Even some worshippers of the Zenithal subscribe to this. It might have even been a catalyst for elevating Yareuss above all others. So there’d be no conflict or confusion as to which side of the Balance the Faith did back.
Schisms in the Faith Zenithal (as in different sects worshipping the Christ) oft differ over these matters of Balance. As this is core to their “living deities,” you can guess that in commune they avidly push their devout to take a hard stance on such matters. Everyone answers to someone higher. In this instance, even the Ulta.
Eret Si’nu = the vapor = Vaporem = the firmament = elementum = the Umbra (black magic) = The Essentia = the Pneuma. “The shadow behind all things.”
