Adventure Two, Session Ten Recap

When we last left our party, they were in the midst of a museum melee over the Rod of Ryktuss. Xanalanthi Xananloth, the mummified, mind-flayer lich, nabbed the rod from the death knight, Lord Vorliss, thus upsetting anything resembling a balance of power.   Simultaneously, the exhibit labeled "Magical Mishaps," consisting of various ancient and magically created beasts, came to life (due to Vorliss previously using the Rod of Ryktuss to bring back the dead). The creatures included the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a stuffed (and oversized) owlbear, a mastodon, and a giant (like really giant) tree sloth. The newly energized beasts promptly set about wrecking the second floor of the museum.   Teffa, in horse form and with Temerity on her back, charged the lich, knocking him prone to the ground.   Leaving their guard posts on the third floor, Guy and Oltorf ran downstairs to help their friends, Oltorf first grabbing the Eye of Ryktuss. Downstairs, the situation was worsening. Vorliss attempted to reclaim the rod from the lich, only to be tossed aside like a rag doll.   Vorliss, in response, cast a spell that created a tremor so violent that it sent cracks and ripples through the second story floor. This, combined with the tree sloth pulling at one of the support beams, was clearly poised to bring the house down upon them. It was noted, however, that Vorliss' spell zigzagged in order to avoid the PC's as it struck out towards Xanalanthi.   Around this time, Perren (the priest of Yareuss), made it to the second floor. And it turns out he knows lore about the Rod of Ryktuss! He informed the party that the rod cannot simply be reassembled by sticking the eye in the socket, rather it needed to be "fused" in a divine ritual that must be completed in a temple to Ryktuss, and with a blood sacrifice (a baptism in blood). Oh, and the sacrifice must be "an unwilling, sentient being."   Teffa, returning to drow-form from her previous state (as a horse), called upon Lewellyn to use the "remote" that controlled the iron cobra on the third floor. The mechanical creature, however, fell from its perch and busted through the ceiling, falling directly on the skeletal T-rex and collapsing the floor beneath the two of them. The two beasts fell through the floor to the first floor below, creating a rather large hole in the second story floor.   The further damage caused by Vorliss' spell, along with a well-timed attack by the party, on Xanalanthi, sent him through the floor as well.   One by one, the party descended (either by the stairs or via the multiple holes in the floor) to the first floor, giving pursuit to the lich. Chaos reigned on the first floor, with the contingent of city guards assisting the party engaged in combat with the undead flowing in from the sewers beneath the museum.   Guy closed the distance between himself and the distracted ex-mummy and used the Arcane Attractor to steal the rod from him.   After this major boon, the party (now possessing both the rod and the eye) made for the museum exit. Once outside they witnessed a virtual riot in the streets, with undead raised from the neighboring cemetery fighting with the city guard, all around the museum. Zelna made it out too, and explained to the party that she was responsible for all the undead activity previous to this night. The robberies and heists were all her. But she never intended to hurt anyone. She just needed money. To pay off a debt (still left unexplained beyond this). The party begrudgingly allowed her to accompany them.   The party then rushed through the market district towards the "Temple of Death" (a church dedicated to Ryktuss). They were greeted at the temple doors by a young acolyte named Velinex. And it turns out Velinex knows Perren! Once inside, the party questioned Velinex. He let slip that his master, the high septon of the church, was in his private quarters. The party demanded to know the way. Velinex left them with a warning.   Never disturb the master...
