Aifya is a thriving coastal city situated along the southern shores of the Verdantia Territory , where trade winds and ocean currents make it a vital hub for maritime commerce. It serves as a major trade point, welcoming merchants, sailors, and adventurers from across the world. Demographics
Aifya’s diverse population reflects its status as a cosmopolitan trade city. Humans form the majority, but elves, dwarves, and halflings have established strong communities, while rarer races like gnomes, tieflings, and dragonborn can be found among the merchant elite or ship crews. The city’s lower docks and industrial zones are home to a large labor force, including many displaced people who seek work in the maritime industry.
Government
The Council of Tides rules Aifya, with each member representing a major trade faction, including shipping guilds, dockworkers, shipwrights, and the powerful merchant families. The council meets in the Aifyan Hall, a grand domed structure overlooking the harbor. Though the council votes on laws and city matters, wealth and influence determine which voices carry true power. The Harbormaster-General Selvara Corvayn acts as the de facto leader, enforcing maritime law, overseeing taxation, and commanding the city’s defensive fleet.
Industry & Trade
Aifya thrives on trade, importing and exporting a staggering variety of goods. Rivermoor Rye flour, textiles, enchanted parchment made from Amber Reedgrass , exotic spices, fine silks, alchemical ingredients, and rare gemstones pass through its docks daily, most of them from the mill just to the north of their boundaries. The city also has a strong shipbuilding industry, crafting merchant vessels, and warships. The brewing of Aifyan Rum, a famed local spirit, has become a staple export.
Infrastructure
Aifya boasts impressive stone docks, fortified seawalls, and extensive warehouse districts that keep trade flowing efficiently. The city's streets are a blend of narrow alleyways in the old quarter and broad, tiled roads in the merchant district. Aqueducts bring fresh water from inland, while an intricate network of canals runs through parts of the city, allowing goods to be transported via small boats. The Great Lighthouse of Aifya, standing at the edge of the main harbor never dims.
