Vengeance Legion
The ruthless Vengeance Legion is the most secretive and dangerous Knight Legion in the Gold Empire. Consisting of holy knights who have lost brothers to war, betrayal and cruel fate, the Vengeance Legion is charged with being the most extreme imperial justice, the killer in the darkness and the punishment for the heathen.
The Vengeance Legion controls the Wasteland, and many of its orders are spread about Dain and the overseas colonies, where they keep populations compliant and fight shadow wars against the enemies of the Gold Empire.

Nahkriin
The core martial philosphy of the Vengeance Legion is Nahkriin, draconic for "Vengeance". Nahkriin was developed during the Hobgoblin Rebellion, when many Knights from different orders and legions lost their compatriots to cowardly and cruel betrayal from giants, hobgoblins and orcs. The strongest of these survived on their own for long, eventually banding together into warbands that would become the first orders of the Vengeance Legion.
Fighting a long and gruelling guerilla campaign behind enemy lines, these Knights came to the understanding that their enemies had rebelled against the Gold Emperor because they had more to gain in rebellion than being part of the imperial whole. The knights understood that the only way to keep such rampant greed in check, would be by making the price of betrayal too great.
The largest band of these Knights, a true army, was led by the half-orc knight legionaire Kiratai Verdanis of Ypsilos, called "the Scourge" by her enemies. Kiratai gave one great gift to her legionnaries: the only way to defeat their enemies was to hate them enough that the knights would die if it meant killing more of their enemy. This fatalistic attitude to self-sacrifice got the Vengeance Legion throught the rebellion as a force of terror in the darkness, and Marshal Verdanis would continue to argue this case after the Rebelion.
The Vengeance Legion believed that the only way such a rebellion could be stopped from ever happening again would be by taking full toll on all who had betrayed the Gold Empire: genocide of the rebelling peoples, tribes and nations.
Today they still practice the spirit of Nahkriin, each Vengeance Knight already knows that he is alone in this world and that he will kill and die gladly in the name of his Emperor. The Vengeance Legion has often been accused of being too violent in the prosecution of their warfare, of killing when they had no right and of terrorising loyal vassals of the Gold Empire. However, such accusations have never made it far in the Council Argentum, as the Vengeance Legion are protected by a prominent ally: Goldbrand Cyne, the Lord Executioner himself.
