Goldbrand Cyne

Lord Goldbrand Cyne (a.k.a. Blackflame)

Lord Goldbrand Cyne is an elf with many titles: First Prince of The Gold Empire, Prince of Cyneland, duke of Célod and Lord Executioner. His epithets are many more, given by both friends and enemies: the Black Flame, Lord Butcher, the Dread Dragon and the First Knight. Goldbrand was the first imperial noble, a great warrior who fought alongside The Gold Emperor in his youth and was bonded to the first Dragon Matriarch: Ualinmorn.
In the centuries since, Goldbrand has given over dread Ualinmorn to his father, king Brandeck the Fire of the West, and now rides Krultis Crimsonscale. He has conquered more territories for the Gold Empire than any general, even the Gold Emperor himself, and has served as Lord Executioner ever since the Hobgoblin Rebellion. He is the Gold Emperor's ultimate justice, and has earned a fearsome renown since those dark days.

Wander Prince
In his youth, Brand Cyne travelled across Dain armed with a magical sword and a desire to see justice done and goodness prevail in the many struggles on that old continent. He fought for peace, liberty and happiness of smallfolk across the continent, never backing down from a challenge and always defying tyrants. However, he slowly grew jaded with the life as a hero as he saw that no matter how much good he individually did, there was simply too much structural evil ingrained in the geopolitical conflicts between nations. While he continued his fight, he was embittered by his failure to save everyone.
In his crisis of faith, Brand was approached by the High King of Oldan. The mysterious monarch had forged a stable nation amidst the conflicts of Dain, and approached Brand with an offer: if Brand would become his champion, he would help the High King build a lawful empire to protect the weak. Brand was initially skeptical of the High King, but agreed to travel to Oldan to protect its people and see if the dream of the High King was worth pursuing.
Golden Knight
Then the dragons came to Dain again in force, great armies led by a colossal red fiend travelled down from the north. Brand fought alongside the High King in these early battles, slaying several dragons himself and proving himself in the eyes of the High King. Their friendship forged in the fires of battle, Brand accepted the position of Champion of the High King. The High King spoke to Brand in secret following this ritual, and none know for sure what words were spoken, but from that day Brand was a loyal servant of the High King.
A few days later, the Gold Dragons came to Dain, bending the knee before the High King, who took the title Gold Emperor. The Gold Emperor chose to ride Kaerziros Lightbringer, and chose Brand to become the First Prince. He was given Lorxan to ride, the largest and oldest of the Gold Dragon matriarchs. Brand here changed his name to Goldbrand, in honor of the golden gods who had come to give him the power to bring justice to Dain.
Goldbrand was given command of the imperial armies during the First Conquests, where he could finally bring peace, justice and stability to the places he had travelled as a youth. He was a central part of the Gold Emperor's government for many decades. Eventually he convinced his father to join the Gold Empire and bring Cyneland into the fold, at which point he had to give up Lorxan the Dread to his father. He instead became rider of her oldest child Krultis Crimsonscale.
Goldbrand continued to play a role in the continued expansion of the Gold Empire, always being at the forefront of expansion and planning continued conquests. When the Great Peace arrived, Goldbrand became restless and sponsored several overseas expeditions to survey potential other continents where one could expand the Gold Empire's influence. He eventually married and had several children in this period, between military expeditions south of the Godpeaks, diplomatic missions and explorations of foreign lands. In this time, his influence on Imperial politics was severely lessened, and he was rarely invited to discussions in the Inner Council as bureaucrats, priests and diplomats took the place of warriors. This would change when Aurumis was attacked by a Hobgoblin legion.
Lord Executioner
When the Hobgoblin Rebellion began, Goldbrand was shocked. He had worked closely with hobgoblins over many years and found their betrayal to be unbelievable. The Gold Empire was a perfect country promising peace and stability to all its citizens. His disbelief turned to sorrow, which turned to anger. If these monsters and heretics could not be turned by reasonable means, unreasonable means would have to be employed. Goldbrand defended Cyneland with terrible force, and managed to unite the West enough to launch counter-attacks on the hobgoblin legions. He exterminated all hobgoblins he found, hanging them from poles wherever his armies marched.
When contact was re-established with the Gold Emperor, the Gold Emperor made it clear that he once again had a use for Goldbrand's talents. Goldbrand was put in command of the Imperial forces, and under his leadership the they were able to push the hobgoblins back on all fronts. After the fateful activation of the Coldstorm in Akeshi, the Gold Emperor commended Goldbrand for his heroism, initiative and actions during the rebellion. The Gold Emperor saw that the Gold Empire was heading into a more troubled future, and that Goldbrand's skills would be necessary in the centuries to come. He named Goldbrand Lord Executioner, beholden only to himself in matters of state and sedition, and gave him the unique power to enforce executions in Imperial territories. He also gave Goldbrand command of the many lone knights who had lost their home monasteries or battle-siblings in battle against the hobgoblins, ordering him to create the Legion of Vengeance.
Goldbrand became a terrifying force in Imperial politics, and all know better than to defy him openly. He is the leader of the Blackflame faction of the Argentine council, always arguing for aggressive expansion and rule through force. He is seen as a bad omen when he visits noble houses, as it is a commonly known secret among the nobility that Goldbrand has executed several noble houses for sedition, on the Gold Emperor's orders.
Today Goldbrand is a bitter and tired old elf, frustrated with humanoids that they cannot act in their own best interests and with the conviction that only fear of reprisal, only fear of him, will keep them in line. This is no the dream that his young self had as a wandering prince, but he assures himself that it simply the nature of the world.

Sexuality

Goldbrand Cyne is heterosexual, but is generally not interested in sex except for the purposes of procreation.

Education

Goldbrand Cyne received some of the best education high elven money can buy. While he was not the oldest child of Brandeck, he received the tutelage of famous bladesmasters and generals, as he was groomed to becoming his brother's Sire of Blades. As a travelling hero, he picked up many tricks from mages he met, as well as discussing philosophy with learned folk all over Dain.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Goldrband has led a long career as one of the Gold Empire's greatest conquerors and heros. He has fought in more battles than any other warrior, and he has commanded more wars than any general. When the wars of expansion were slowing down in Dain, Goldbrand spearheaded the initative to establish protectorates and colonies overseas. During the Hobgoblin Rebellion, he led the first major counterattacks and pushed back against the legions. Many have critizised him for being too aggresive and expansionistic.

Intellectual Characteristics

After a near-milennia of experience, Goldbrand has learned much. His mind analyzes every possibility, every possible advantage he can obtain in a situation, whether in war or peace. He rarely speaks his full mind, preferring to analyze and understand situations.

Ruthless Lord Executioner of the Gold Empire, Goldbrand Cyne is the greatest warrior and general of the Gold Empire. He has come to East Sceya to oversee its integration into the Gold Empire, and select a suitable heir for king Hans.
