Session 6 - "Aggravated As-Salt"

General Summary

After being successful mail-carriers for Ignaci's task, & deftly slaying the slugs surrounding the witch's home, we encounter Green-Eyed Jatya. When we rest, more of our members begin to have more dreams. Later, we tell stories for our last task with Okoro, only to face a tougher challenge.

The party finds themselves invited into the Harpie's (Green-Eyed Jatya) home. Very dusty and cobwebbed filled with various containments for specimens. We are invited into their home, and thanked for the assistance offered!

The party delivers a parcel to them, which contains some wind chimes. Jatya hopes to use them as a reminder to not harm others, and to hopefully invite people to come and visit her as a shopkeeper.

Jatya reports that she is indeed a carnivore and would eat any of us (excpet baby girl Nymeria of course). teehee

Jatya gifts us a weapon potency item to improve her fighting capabilities. thanking us for saving her cat, as well as her from the slug menace (Runescape reference :)) Eshe and Rubina take a look around and find that Jatya's space is like a bootlegged powder Room tha tXhokan is in charge of. The items presented are things that would likely be hidden to new magicians, but all seem to be fairly priced and could be useful! While the materials are of the darker side of magic, they are definitively not evil. Jatya also offers her services of being able to do some revoking of curses, and potentially gain insight(???) into things and beings from beyond our plane. Eshe offers up a black origami bird with expressed interest of following up at a later day.

Jatya reports to the party that they can smell death on Eshe, and reports that there is something near Eshe that stinks of death. Rubina, gets a tad uncomfortable, and excuses herself and Laura outside of the home. Eshe reports that they are not currently interested in navigating this curse, and reports that they will return at a later date. Jatya moves on from the conversation and offers us some goods to take with us! A waterproof bag, the weapon potency crystal, and the Mudlily!

We exit stage right. Not pursued by slug.

Adira approaches Eshe on the way back to the Magaambya. Eshe is very much putting up walls and is not interested in discussing the concerns at this time.

Rubina takes time to help? people onto their Elephant birds and we make our way back home!

Ignaci and Strands welcome us back home with a feast! Chizire is there being sassy about no one appreciating his ginger beer. Ignaci applauds the party for delivering so many letters successfully, and welcomes us all to the dinner table. Ignaci starts to describe the exploration focus of the Emerald Boughs, acting as recruiters for the Magaambya, and offering assistance where possible.

Ignaci opens up about being recruited to the Magaambya, and speaks to his sadness of his people the Cheliax and their actions of war and colonization. Eshe finds out that one of the leaders of this group is possessed by a pit fiend, and Cheliax has yet to have an extinction event that is apparently…fated to occur(???). Ignaci reports that he was helping the rebel forces to break away from Cheliax in Vidrian. Ignaci reports that Mariama is a childhood friend and he wanted to make sure his friend got in.

Ignaci reports that Teacher Lesedi can be a bit brash and almost a bully in the beginning to see who will stand and act instead of be a bystander. That many terrible events would not have occurred if more people were willing to stand up.

Ginger Beer is drank, and delicious food was had. Strands very glad to see us eating and enjoying. It seems that many are still concerned around Strands's children still not fully mastering their illusions. Ignaci reports that many will quit the school by winter and it will hopefully be more accepting by then.

Eshe offers up some of the silk from the caterpillars collected earlier, and Strands expresses interest in weaving the silk into something for her children. Eshe excuses themself to rest.

Rubina approaches Adira to inspect the Mudlily to search for a curse of some kind. Not finding anything Adira gives Rubina the Mudlily. and they both depart after a hug is given.

Orvin slides a note under Eshe's door expressing an apology for speaking on Eshe's behalf about their curse earlier. Orvin hearing furious cleaning of some kind, he returns to his room to get to his work.

Eshe begins to have "The Dream". Flowers dried and dying. insect wings fluttering imperceptably yet perfectly still. Bones, fallen into a spiral. A shadow on a grave. Light passing through a sea of clouds while "Love is… Knowledge shall….and life" spoken out among unintelligble words. Quiet sounds from the jungle heard from a great distance. Eshe awakens with strange emotions in the morning, potentially from the person they were before…or maybe not. Eshe awakens and sees their hands blistered from the clothes washing that occurred the night before. A tear rolls down their cheek, and the thought of "Who am I ….Why are the words never clear?" presents itself, and feels the unnamed loss of something long forgotten. Sitting on Eshe's windowsill, a long dark feather is placed. Eshe quickly moves to grab the feather and finds that it is ice cold to the touch. Learning that this feather belongs to a psychopomp (the Morigna) specializing in devouring the undead. Speaking out and asking if there is a reason that the being is here, and is met with utter silence. Eshe ties the feather at the quill with the caterpillar silk to make it a talisman that is worn at their waist. We (the viewers) briefly see the bird guy from episode 2 in the mirror reflections.

Nymeria dream sequence begins. A dark place, and a bright place are visible to them on either side. they find themself in a dimly lit corridor, and aware that they are dreaming. Veins extend from the darkness into the light. Nymeria takes steps to follow the veins into the dark. Reaching the source…the space is darker and light seems to suffocate. Nymeria hears rain like a drumbeat, and they notice that they are starting to get rained upon. they are outside and find themself within a storm. A smell of blood in the air, and sees broken earth beneath their feet. spikes, columns of earth, and thick water. Nymeria is on a bridge within the expanse, and they see a person face down within the earth, and surrounded by a puddle of blue-green. With a slight tremble they take their hand and make their way to the person to see if they are breathing. Nymeria will also touch the puddle and finds that it is luke warm and more thick. the person is in thick leathers, and a broken staff is tossed to the side. Nymeria turns the body and sees themself. the body looks different, but Nymeria still recognizes that this is them. The wounded Nymeria is in pain, and our Nymeria feels they are looking out from within a mirror. they feel pain rack through their body as they switch to the perception of the Nymeria face down in the ground. they feel incredible pain all over, but especially through their chest. A Mwangi man with a blue dragon scale around their neck approaches Nymeria and begs them to hold on. the man says that he will get medicine and return, cursing the Magaambyans who had done this to Nymeria. Nymeria calls for the man's name, he says that if Nymeria does not remember him…then he has no name and is no more than a ghost. He swears to take revenge on the elf that did this to them. the man takes something from Nymeria and runs off into the distance. n=Nymeria leaves this event and finds themself as our Nymeria. A woman's voice urges to Nymeria to not forget her, and that Nymeria often looks like they are trying to recall something that is out of reach. Kayleath, Kyra, Orin (spelling???) are all present. the sun is warm, and Nymeria awakens within the dorm. Getting up abruptly they cover their mouth, and goes to their pack to journal as much as they can of the dream. Nymeria would take notes of the ghost person event, but not that they were actually the person dying. Deemed "Nameless Person" they also would not put the Kayleath portion into the journal either, expressing simply that they were in Haven.

The party is sent messages from someone calling us across campus towards one of the statues of Magic Warriors Carmine Jaws "the hyena that looks between". Their existence is why Kholo (knolls) are always welcomed into the Magaambya without question. Esi is there on a stump journaling. The other person seems bored and has golden glowing eyes. Okoro Obiyo, the attendant of the Uzunjati for the Spire dormitory. We are told that we will be graduating from Hopefuls to Initiates as soon as we finish with Okoro/ By the night we will be officially members of the Magaambya. No need to debate the pros and cons of admitting us into the academy, they view us as kind and capable. The task is to listen to a story on what it is like to have come here, something that has changed and will be looked back upon. and then share one ourselves.

Okoro's first day at the Magaambya, he found himself in the commons where some initiates were playing a board game. Once he was noticed, one of the plays gestured him over and asked if he has the mind to play. "Of course I do, do you want me to prove it?". the game tied around the principles of magic, with the rules being simple enough. He noticed the pattern and predicted his opponents moves. the person he was playing against never stopped smirking, Okoro learned that each of his moves had been expected and ended up losing the game. He is from Senghor, where many sailors play all sorts of games. the best of which play complicated games and realizes that he spent his life doing this and he still lost. He tries to play again and loses yet again. He gets frustrated and it gets worse each time. when he left to tend to his bruised ego, a teacher approached him and said "What do you mean? How could you be mad? this kind of game you have to lose to be good. Because if you haven't lost, you don't know what you are doing". He realized he could have been the person to give up and stop away, but something that resonated was that he was going to get very good at losing and make sure no one else in the Magaambya will have lost as much as him. when he received his mask, he won his first game! He proceeded to lose every game since, but realized he won the game. Esi being the friend in question.

Adira begins! The story of a girl who hails from a distant land making a promise to come to the Magaambya and do something that she doesn't know if she can. Believing that she has done so with meeting her classmates, and was expecting the big magic portions of the school. Coming to this space and meeting such interesting people, she realized that they all have incredible stories, and that all the stories are unique and surprising. She expected to come and feel like a failure, but found that they have been feeling nothing like that! she thought she would have to cast magic and be a powerful sorceress daughter, and that she hasn't had to. she wants to take this story, and once its finished, she would like to share everything that is going to happen, because she is very hopeful. More so than she has since arriving.

Orvin takes time to tell the tale of the party's enterance of the party into the Magaambya and highlighting each of the party members's heroic actions in protecting the citizens and quelling the threat presented. Leaving plenty of room for the beautiful story that will be written upon the city!

Nymeria tells the tale of their small conversations with Eshe and Noxolo. highlighting the differences in culture and beliefs that have set them potentially at odds. Nymeria realizing that there is nothing corrupt or malice in Noxolo's actions, and enjoys the beauty that Noxolo ascribes to it. Noting that corruption often ends up beaten out of someone back at home, and they are very glad to see that this is not the case in the Magaambya.

Rubina steps forward and reports that Nymeria's words are very inspiring to her. that Rubina had come off a bit more rigid and uptight, and that they have learned that people can surprise you Rubina realizing that there are other thought processes that they had not taken before, but says that she will do everything in her power to protect each of the party members. If the party needs some strength, then Rubina will lend all that they can have. A prediction of all the ways that we can support eachother.

Eshe offers thanks to Rubina and expresses how they take Rubina's words deeply. Eshe reports that their proper name is Eshe Santi Ahamada. the name that makes them a part of a family, but somehow they still feel like they have not earned it. when they began traveling to the Magaambya. They were unsure if this was the right path for them, and expresses that they have felt lonely and not really had friends before. When they sleep, they do not feel like they are sleeping at all. On the way, they met a butterfly that helped them cross the rivers, and a bard who played a tune of comfort. So maybe things are on the right track? As they came to the steps of the Magaambya, finding even more. someone with the ability to transform to their hearts desire. finally turning to Rubina. someone who is wise and strong. carrying their grief with them as a reminder. Hoping that Eshe will be able to follow in Rubina's steps. they are hopeful to be able to try.

Okoro takes his leave with a deep bow, and makes his way out of the clearing and heads to the Magaambya.

Esi offers each of us one of her beads to add to our bracelets, and asks us all to stay connected with her.

Orvin and Rubina join with the Tempest sun Mages. Nymeria chooses the cascade bearers. Adira, after some deliberation, chooses the Tempest Sun Mages as well. Eshe also deciding to go with the Cascade Bearers.

Esi leads our daisy chained party to the induction ceremony. the clearing having the air of authority and age. Pomp and Circumstance are abundant. Getting closer, there is a shape on the stage laying in a puddle of their own blood is Mariama. Wet sleeping bags sop onto the stage…those mother fucking slugs.

Through efforts of the party, we successfully save Mariama and are able to capture a pugwampi for questioning.
