Session 18: Spooky Scary Skeletons

After plotting with Medea, the party members attended a feast thrown by Aeëtes in honor of his special guests. Before dinner, he madea long, verbose, and obsequious prayer to his father Helios and to Zeus, upsetting Kallos. Amara and Dóro distracted Aeëtes while Calais and Zetes used Mage Hand to put the moly root in the king’s food. Medea used her Unseen Servant to hand Meredythe a jar of fire-resistance ointment that she had prepared earlier. Aeëtes’ baby dragon Flappy, who had previously been Enthralled by Meredythe, began to flutter over to her and draw attention to the jar, but Aeëtes did not notice and simply called the young dragon back to his arm.   As they left the banquet hall, they noticed that Jason was missing and so was Medea. “I bet they’re fucking,” Aegis said bluntly. Later that night, Jason came back to the guest room. Amara was up waiting for him and asked him if he had a nice time. Jason told Amara that he had asked Medea to marry him—“that’s what heroes on glorious quests do!”—but that she turned him down. Amara explained to Jason that one does not simply get married after the first date.   The next day, the adventurers were brought to the field of trial and told to yoke two fire-breathing bulls and use them to plough a field. Kallos grappled the first one and Meredythe rounded up the second one. Amara directed the bulls to plough the field. Next, King Aeëtes gave them a bag of dragons’ teeth, which he had taken from Flappy and Scuttle when they shed their front row of teeth. He explained that they should sow the dragons’ teeth in the field they just ploughed. The party members, knowing this was a trick, opted to sow them in a small circle which they could attack from the outside.   The ground began to rumble and six skeleton warriors with swords and other weapons came clawing their way out of the ground. The party began fighting them, taking out two before Kallos cast Turn Undead.   When you use Turn Undead, each undead that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. If the creature fails its saving throw, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes any damage. A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly move to a space within 30 feet of you.   The skeletons all failed their saves and were turned… as was Aegis.
