Session 11: Never Split the Party

(Note: due to technological difficulties and the malevolence of Eris, goddess of Discord, the DM was unable to communicate with her players for a period of time, significantly shortening this session.)   After killing Circe and hearing Helios’ vow to avenge his murdered daughter, Amara, Callidora, and Meredythe took a moment to process the emotional toll of the past few days’ events, while Kallos and Aegis brought the men Circe had previously transformed onto the ship (having clothed them in Circe’s spare dresses, to Jason's admiration and approval). Kallos eventually carried her traumatized companions back to the Argo and they set sail—only for the party members on deck to take 2 HP of radiant damage from the angry Titan of the sun.   Below decks, Aegis was peeling potatoes with her teeth when Kallos approached her to talk about a remark she had made during Circe’s dinner party—namely, that Aegis had eaten people before. Aegis explained:
“I had to. I had to eat people or I would’ve starved. . . I was in a… chaos army of sorts, and when it came down to it, we had to… eat some people to survive. It’s sort of like, when you’re a kid and you have to eat your broccoli, and you don’t really want to, but you do what you have to do and you eat your broccoli. It’s sort of like that.”   Kallos replied, "I have never eaten broccoli.”
Kallos then changed the subject, telling Aegis a story about a bear that she thought Aegis would find amusing. She gestured to her tattoos and said:
“You know how I have all of these markings on my skin? They’re made with ink, and each of them is from an important moment from my life. But this is the most special.” She pointed at a small tattoo on her leg. “In my tribe, as a rite of passage, it is customary to go on a small hunt to try and bring back the most ferocious beast possible. Well, when I was out with my group, we set a bear trap and got a dire bear, but the dire bear’s leg got caught in the trap. So in a fit of desperation, I gnawed through the bear’s leg in order to get it home!”
The Argo reached the shore of Troy, and the party went into the city to explore. They went into a shop and bought arrows, healing potions, a Scroll of Water Breathing, a Scroll of Ceremony, and some raw materials for metalwork. Additionally, Aegis stole a fantastically expensive Drinking Horn of Valhalla; the incongruity of this item with the mythos of the world they were in did not occur to them.   Amara split off from the group early on, searching for companionship. She found a willing partner, slept with him, then left. It did not seem to be a particularly fulfilling encounter.   Kallos was delighted with her purchase of the Ceremony scroll and the prospect of officiating important rituals such as weddings, leading to an awkward conversation with the pining Aegis. Kallos wanted to make gifts for all her fellow party members. Initially, she was going to make bracelets, but upon Aegis’ suggestion, she made rings for them all (although Aegis only meant for hers to be a ring, not everyone’s). They were given a guest bedroom in the house of a local blacksmith, with one bed and a set of blankets on the floor. There was some controversy over who should take the bed, since Kallos’ height made it difficult to share.   Meredythe, meanwhile, went to the nearest tavern, Ganymede’s Goblet. Callidora followed her—a wise decision, given that Meredythe intended to spend all her money on increasingly large bowls of wine, to the awe and bewilderment of the bartender and his boss. After taking 6 HP of damage from alcohol poisoning, Meredythe passed out. Callidora negotiated with the staff to reserve a room upstairs, then carried Meredythe there, tucked her in, and went to sleep in another bed, mind lingering on a building she had seen while walking through the city—the Temple of Apollo, god of prophecy.
