River Styx

The River Styx flows through the evil realms of the Outer Planes, and following it is one of the few ways to physically travel between the planes.

The river is extremely dangerous for mortals. When close to the river, travelers can see and smell and even feel the countless souls of mortals who have been discarded.

In Cania, the eighth layer of the Nine Hells of Baator, the river's surface is mostly covered by thin sheets of ice. The river has a dark crimson color, bubbles can be seen coming from below, and the smell is foul.
