Uban
The first Uban landed on their islands only by the ones and two, rarely the dozens. They carved into the mountains of lands both tropical and barren for rare minerals: obsidian, jade, coal, iron, and gem quartz. They sailed the treacherous waters of the Serpent Road along with their Hob countrymen from a great continent in the north, called in their tongue Khazad-gathol after their own Khazad Empire. Braving sea monsters, storms, and hidden reefs was not the domain of well adjusted folk with many friends or family. It was the adventurer types either with nothing to lose, or a mind already lost. They were allowed their foolishness so long as riches were shipped back to the Fatherland.
It was only in the dwarven homeland's time of great need that their wayward sons proved their worth. Some one hundred twenty years before the First Gnosis, Khazad suffered a catastrophic civil war known to dwarf and goblin alike as the Kin Strife. Each class of society and wing of philosophy conspired against the others, in hideous bloodbath. Most shameful of all was their king who changed sides three times over the course of the war. In the end victory was taken by the Republicans and Integrationists who completely wiped out the Monarchists and cast the Derro and Duergar into the Veins of the Earth.
These philosophies however mattered little to the Uban whose role was to offer sanctuary to the tens of thousands of refugees who piled into every available sea worthy and many less than sea worthy vessels to brave the central ocean. More than half who made the journey perished by the sea's perils, but all who reached the Uban ports thanked the ancestors for deliverance from the war. This trial aided in a swift incorporation into Uban society, as it rendered the survivors just the right sort of mad to enjoy a sailor's life.
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
It should be noted that all Khazad dwarves publicly presented as masculine. Feminity was something considered too personal to demonstrate outside the home. However with the cultural changes of Uban migration some dwarves have begun being publicly feminine, in doing so they take on female names from other cultures.

Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Worldwise- Every Uban fancies themselves a dashing explorer just on the verge of some great adventure that will catapult them to fame and fortune. With the First Gnosis and the collapse of world order they have become emboldened to take up ever more fanciful journeys into the mainland seeking out these fortunes. After all each trek is another story and a new tool for impressing others with your worldliness.
Edge of the World- Uban tend to readily accept new and fanciful information, after all they're living on the frontier. This leads to them imitating, often quite badly, the cultural and linguistic affectations of their traveling companions and hosts.
