The Serpent Road
There is a central ocean between the two known continents of Gnossiene. It is known by the name Serpent Road for it is filled with monsters. To safely travel its waves sailors must coat their ships in ichors extracted from creatures of the deep earth, to repel the monsters of the deep sea. Thus is was dwarves who first conquered the middle waters. The isles they inhabit are all formed from great volcanic upwellings from the ocean floor. The sea is too deep for any other type to reach its floor.
Fauna & Flora
Sea Serpents- Enormous snake-like creatures that travel in packs of up to two hundred individuals. They form migrating swarms stripping clean all creatures larger than a minnow in upper layers of the ocean. However they leave the depths untouched and as such allow their prey to repopulate before the swarm returns to a region years or decades later. This unfortunately puts all surface vessels in their hunting grounds.
Chorus Whales- Singing toothed whales who feed on the squid of the deeper oceans. Within these depths they have no use for eyes, and have simply lost them to a head of scarred flesh, but some are said to have eyes within their flesh. It is believed that these whales possess near Kin intellects and have been driven mad from some hideous truth in depths. For what other reason could they have to answer the songs of Nautican whalers and swim to the surface where certain death awaits?
Sea Priests- Strange pitch black creatures of kin shape but twenty feet or more tall. They stand in fathoms deep water as though wading near shore, and destroy boats as if a child breaking a toy. The only means of avoiding their wrath is to avoid gazing on them at all. If ignored for long enough they will depart.
inspired by Umibōzu yokai, but there is no Japanese equivalent language so I used a different name.
