Writhe
Writhe
Writhe is an Apparent, believed to be the living embodiment of the frustration and pain of the Song of Creation as It breaks and bends against Itself through Its mere existence. As Creation flexes, changes, grows, and shrinks, it is believed that the Song screams — much as metal or rock when subjected to intense pressure — which in turn forces new change, growth, etc., within Creation. This endless cycle is believed to be personified in Writhe, which has been known to take out Its torment on the various planes of existence.
Writhe is believed to be a endless, twisting, coiling mass of thorns and scales, disappearing into infinite fractals dripping with the plasma of burning stars. It is said to sprout uncountable heads, akin to that of a Hydra — which themselves are believed to be Its get — each filled with fangs and flame.
Affiliations
The existence of Writhe Itself is denied wholeheartedly by the Church of Eighteen Eyes, and there are no known cults within its framework that worship the being directly. However, many take the concept of Writhe and apply it widely to Demonkind in general, suggesting that It may have been the animating force that spawned the endless contradictory tunnels of the Echoing long before recorded time. Though this theory seems reasonable, there appear to be no links between those that do worship Writhe, and Demonic cultists. Indeed, some small cults to Writhe do exist, mostly forming among those who have dabbled in extraplanar magics and witnessed the Cacophony. These cults tend to take on a worldview of intense nihilism and stubborn determination which may at first appear contradictory, but is said to make more sense as one delves into the ideology. Another notable link is between Writhe and the Lord of Bridges & Baubles, whose oldest scriptures talk of Them wearing a 'cloak of serated scales, weeping the night sky as They flow from world to world.' Given the nature of Writhe, and Its Apparent ability to freely travel Creation, some scholars view the two are curiously similar.Motivations
Though known for Its wrath — It being believed to have devoured the first Human before they could die naturally — Writhe is not believed to be an insidious force (though certainly an untamable, unpredictable, and terrifyingly dangerous one). Within Its throes of frustration, It also necessarily brings new form to reality, and is thus — whether intentionally or not — a creator spirit. Those foolish enough to worship Writhe confirm this, though few are those who listen to them.
