Rudderless

Rudderless — also known as the Behemoth, and the Screaming Eternal — is a God recognised by the Church of Eighteen Eyes, believed to rule over the domains of Destruction, Freedom, Luck, and Water. Rudderless is a furious God, ruled by jealousy and a fickleness to rival the seas over which They claim dominion. They see the world in terms of whim and woe: insults are punished terribly, whilst trust in their madness is given great reward. They are a God of freedom in the manner of throwing off shackles, and abandoning reason to the winds. As such, a common prayer to Rudderless is to remove one’s hands from the captain’s wheel of a ship, and intone the words “My hands are but a conduit for Rudderless. Should I be smashed upon the sea, it will be born from my lack of faith.” Indeed, many priests of Rudderless preach that, when in doubt, or when lost, one should stop steering their course, and allow the wind to right the ship. This is called Going-a-Rudderless.   Rudderless is a favoured deity of seafarers, explorers, monks, and adventurers, though They are most often invoked to appease Them, rather than as appeals for intervention. Most are perfectly happy not to come to Rudderless's notice. Even their most ardent followers are loathe to directly call upon their aid.
