Ka Da' Weyn Waalan Condition in Ghosts of Saltmarsh | World Anvil

Ka Da' Weyn Waalan

Ka Da' Weyn Waalan is refined black ichor injected into Sahuagin warriors, known as Unonya, under the careful corrupted watch of High Priestess Thadrah.

Transmission & Vectors

Three vials of black ichor are needed to make Ka Da' Weyn Waalan, an ability-enhancing drug. This drug is a fiercely guarded secret. Only a select trusted few know that she is making this vile substance. By refining the ichor, Thadrah is able to enhance the aggressive conditions of the substance and minimize the memory loss caused in its natural form. Individuals who regularly take the substance risk becoming addicted to its euphoric side effects.

Causes

The condition is caused by the integration of corrupted divine blood entering the bloodstream. The recipient’s blood tries to reject the foreign substance, but the deity good is too strong and quickly floods the organism’s system, imbuing the recipient with divine powers for a brief period of time. The black ichor is thin enough to create an even layer above the bloodstream without stopping vital nutrients but leaves a thin corrupting lining in the blood vessels. The more frequent the injections, the quicker the internal deterioration.

Symptoms

Ka Da' Weynn Waalan directly impacts the executive functions in the prefrontal cortex, while also causing physical mutations with prolonged exposure.   Mental Affects, listed in order of benefits as perceived by High Priestess Thadra
  • Increased reaction times

Physical Affects, listed in order of appearance

History

A black iccur has started to spread through the cracked Gadalatha planar seal, spreading through the deep caverns and corrupting all it touches. The black iccur is viewed as a disease to the Gadalatha tribe. The sahuagin high priestess Thadrah sees this as a divine boon.   She regularly sends sahuagin scouts to the planar seal to collect the back iccur. The only challenging part of the journey is distracting any Tridon gate guardians that may be nearby. This usually uneventful journey allows the scouts the black iccur to be collected fairly easy. As a result, some scouts have started to show signs of Chromaplexy.

Cultural Reception

As the High Priestess, Thadrah is responsible for the spiritual safety and physical protection of the Sahuagin tribe. Her experiments and connection with the Elder One would be sufficient cause for her removal and exile. As such, Ka Da' Weyn Waalan is a closely kept secret. Individuals who show severe symptoms or addictions are quietly reassigned to areas outside the community.
