The ruling classes of the Yulan-Tai, having been corrupted by Hessetal undergo a most grisly transformation into the Yuan-Ti. This process required the sacrifice of thousands of slaves, and heralded the last expansionary period of the Yulan-Tai Empire.

The ruling classes of the Yulan-Tai, having been corrupted by Hessetal undergo a most grisly transformation into the Yuan-Ti. This process required the sacrifice of thousands of slaves, and heralded the last expansionary period of the Yulan-Tai Empire. The Ascencion of the Yuan-Ti collapsed the relatively stable slave population and necessitated the capture of more slaves. This resulted in the frantic and massive slave raiding campaign, as well as leading to the planning and execution of the War of Frozen Scales.   The Yuan-Ti become increasingly distant from fellow Yulan-Tai that refused, or were unable to undergo the transformation, and increasingly, human Yulan-Tai are treated as a group of fourth class citizens, little better than the slaves that the Yulan-Tai have acquired, which caused fractures in the society of the Empire.
