Government

The city of Waylon's Keep is run by the reigning Emperor of Kenereth, and guarded by the Thronekeepers, who enforce the laws within the city.

Defences

The city of Waylon's Keep is very well defended, with tall walls crafted of hard stone and defended with ballistae every couple of meters. There are also constantly patrolling Thronesguard throughout the city to keep the people defended.

Industry & Trade

Many of the inhabitants of Waylon's Keep are farmers, fishers, or lumberworkers, though some are also artisans of various guilds, employees at Solace Inns, clergy members, or members of the Thronesguard. As the capital city of the Empire, all imperial coinage is minted in the city of Waylon's Keep. The guildhall of the Kenerese Trading Company is also located here, so much of Kenereth's trade bars not in circulation are minted and held here, and much trade between trade companies is conducted at the docks.

Districts

  • Waterfront District: The western district of the city, containing the docks and more traders & shops. Many fishers live here, owning boats at the docks and fishing for their living. This is also where government vessels depart for new lands and trade purposes. Many other ships dock at the port, both for trade and immigration purposes. Foreign traders are common around the docks, and most trade conducted here is done with trade bars.
  • Trader's District: The central district of the city, full of market stalls and stores where travelers and residents aim to sell their wares. At it's center passes Venture Road, a pedestrian promenade full of restaurants and markets divided between the various trading guilds of Lanora. The district is also dotted with more inns than any other district, including many Solace Inns operated by the Teawater Clan and their associates and employees. Most purchasing done here is with coin, but larger trade deals are done with trade bars minted by the many trading companies.
  • Hilltop District: The northeastern district of the city, where much of the nobility and other wealthy folk abide. The elevated nature of the district allows for a better view of the rest of the city, consequently meaning that living there is much more expensive. Other important locations within this district include the Treaserra Institute of the Arcane, the Cathedral of the Magistrate, Kenereth's largest Solace Inn, and Castle Kenereth, home of the Emperor of Kenereth.
  • Cedarroof District: The southern district of the city, home to most of the residential population. Living expenses are a lot cheaper here, and many who aren't farmers or fishers live a life somewhere between poor and comfortable within this district. Also found here is the Thronesguard barracks, close to the border between it and the Hilltop district.
  • Outside the walls, many farmers can be found with small homes tending to their fields, their livestock and their families.

History

At the end of the Time of Strife, Waylon Kenereth I settled the town of Waylon's Keep, creating the Kenereth Empire and beginning his dynasty that lasts to this day. Waylon's Keep is the first and largest city of the empire, though not the oldest of those who were already built by the end of the Time of Strife. Since then, the Empire of Kenereth has expanded beyond Waylon's Keep, though it has always sat its emperor.

Architecture

Much of Waylon's Keep's architecture is a rustic style, crafted mostly of stone and cedar wood. Many parks and dots of greenery also exist within the city, and the roads are lined with cobblestones. Many buildings in the Cedarroof district are also wrapped in greenery creeping up and around.

Geography

Waylon's Keep is a coastal city at an intersection point that allows it access to both the North Sea and the South Sea. It's also on the border of the Blainecoln Forest, allowing for much reach into it for lumber and hunting.

Climate

Waylon's Keep has a cooler climate, being relatively close to the northernmost parts of Lanora. Winter is very cold and often decently snowy, while summer is cool and breezy. Much of the harvest happens in the late summer and early fall, and many crops are planted in the spring. Due to this seasonal climate, many farmers invest more in their livestock than they do in their crops, though some cultivate evergreen crops.
