Winedark, Chapter Seventeen
General Summary
Wherein our heroes uncover an unsettling underwater march, claim ownership of an unknown god's paraphernalia, and finally catch up to a long-sought vessel
An Old New God
After dispatching the kraken priests back to The Vast, our heroes resumed course toward the Seven Rows, and hopefully toward another component of Instrument. As seems to be very on brand for this particular crew, something strange happened on the way to their destination--a glance through the Matahak Shallows revealed a parade of marching skeletons along the ocean floor, with four skeletons carrying an ornate casket/tomb/ark/sarcophagus at the front of the line. Clearly, this was something that our heroes needed to investigate, so Captain Pitch, Kharlo Chondricht, Water, and Kasula Neristina dove into the Vast, leaving poor Irk--he of no water-breathing abilities--to watch over the crew. Further investigation revealed that these marching skeletons were probably cursed, and doomed to carry this ark-type thing across the ocean floor as part of that curse. This was nearly discovered the hard way, as both Water and Kharlo barely avoided becoming part of that skeleton detachment. It was quickly agreed that the Vastblasters absolutely had to have whatever the fuck this thing is, so through strength, guile, and the simple mechanics of a pulley, the skeleton's burden was hauled up onto the weatherdeck (along with attending skeletons, and a pair of skeleton hands). The clever application of a remove curse spell by Irk freed the skeletons from their obligation to carry this casket/tomb to an unknown destination. T This ark-type thing appears to either belong to, or perhaps contain the remains of, a god from the Unknown Era--Aotl--whose sigil is a hand extended palm up, filled with flame. Not much more is known about this entity, but resident scholar Marvon Mosswater is on the case. There are ongoing discussions as to what, exactly, to do with this thing.Sharks? Sharks! And the Seven Rows
Progress toward the Seven Rows was once again interrupted by combat, this time by several angry sharks who seemed quite intent on destroying VastBlaster and devouring its crew. Although these sharks packed a punch--bringing Water, once again, to death's door--our adventurers managed to defeat them without losing a single shipmate to their ravenous jaws. With that, the Seven Rows was sighted and a water-taxi piloted by one Billick Uhoh delivered them to the main deck of this huge ship/experiment in capitalist fatality. To begin, the Blasters did what anyone would do aboard this floating mall--they did some shopping. It was off to HOTT SPENCERZ, a very trendy boutique specializing in the latest in music-based fashion and novelty items--to get Irk a goddamn water-breathing something. That something took the form of a Hottim69 branded cap of water-breathing. Irk is now the envy of every emo teenager in the Isles. That feat accomplished, it was time to seek out more information and opportunities aboard the Seven Rows, perhaps arranging a brotherly reunion and a tour of the Sealed Holds in the deepest part of the vessel. And That's Where We Left It
We'll see what adventures lay aboard the Seven Rows during our next sessionVarious & Sundry Details
- Irk's remove curse spell did not, however, remove the skeletons from undeath. So, after a bit of discussion, it was decided to welcome them to the crew. So yes, that happened. The crew of VastBlaster is now augmented by 5 skeletons.
- Marvon Mosswater is actively studying the Ark of Atol. Who knows what he'll find?
- Tronnam Bonetide, a reputed expert on the lich known as Zazerk the Saltworm, is aboard the Seven Rows. Perhaps he can shed some light on this whole Ulam situation.
