Torokawa

Torokawa
Torokawa is the capital and largest settlement in Bragaki
Torokawa is the capital of Bragaki and an important settlement in the Drembari Isles.

Government

As with every other Isle in Drembari Isles, Bragaki has an elected Waterspeaker that maintains offices in Torokawa. Currently, that Speaker is Loshi Saltbloom, who serves as Sea Sibyl. This is a point of pride for many Kawans. In Saltbloom's absence, the Second Speaker--Faybyn Mosswater--is the federal representative.   Torokawa is also the capital of Bragaki and its seat of governance for Isle affairs. An election is held every six years to elect an administrative triumvirate called the Path. Each member of the Path rotates through a two year term as Guide of the Path. The election is open to all Bragaki citizens. Citizens may serve on the Path only once during their lifetime.

Defences

The climate of Torokawa dictates much of how the city defends itself. The deadly Bloodgrip butts up against the northern border of the settlement, making access by any method other than water a dangerous proposition.    Further, Kawans have manipulated the environment itself to offer protection against would-be invaders, growing dense vine walls and fashioning far-seeing towers anchoring them at key points throughout the city.    That said, Torokawa does maintain a strong militia and armory on a specific island dedicated to that purpose. If a vessel approaches from the east, it is the first thing it sees.

Infrastructure

Perhaps the most remarkable building in Torokawa is the Aekertum, a teeming hive of artisans, guild merchants and citizens living in the carved out passageways of an ancient tree.    Many Kawans view The Calling House as a clear articulation of Bragaki values--music, oration, and performance informing and steering the governance of the settlement itself.

Tourism

People from all over come to Bragaki--and to Torokawa, specifically--to induldge in Bragaki Shore Truffles, which are notoriously difficult to source. Consumers of the truffles have reported feelings ranging from pleasurable mouthfeel to a blissful communion with Otuna. Individuals found selling inauthentic truffles are subject to severe sanction.
