STATIC 38: A Carydamian Interlude II

General Summary

Wherein the Blinkertons return to New Carydam and find the city nearing crisis

A City in Chaos

The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency, upon returning to New Carydam, discovered that The Displacement continues to influence the city in impossible to predict ways. It is clear that this phenomenon might bring profit, but might also bring the destruction of the city as they know it.   Checking in with Messelum confirmed their suspicions--the Displacement is growing more unstable, if such a thing is possible. New Carydam is in danger of being completely destroyed by this unraveling of the Skein. Luckily, they were able to provide Messelum with a lead--they need to get to the tract of the The Nether known as Bonefields. Locating a portal to that particular tract will take some time, so he provided some funds to the group and advised them to regroup as he tried to find a way to get them to the Nether.   That regrouping took place in our adventurer's headquarters, No Future. Scruzz, their partner in the endeavor, told them that they could improve their financial situation if they were to "liberate" a particularly sought after steamball machine called The Joy Palace. This seemed like a good plan, so our heroes agreed. One slight hiccup, though--this machine was currently held by The Concern, and they were unlikely to part with it willingly. Corinna, especially, was vexed by this but it was determined that the reward outweighed the risk, so our heroes started to plan a caper.

And That's Where We Left It

We'll discover how this particular heist is executed during our next session.

Varied & Sundry Details

  • Apparently, the smells of New Carydam are changing along with the fabric of the city itself. Our adventurers noticed hints of fish guts, decaying fish, "meaty" soups, and "vape" lingering in the air.
  • A chef named Kosoto Cleanpaws offered our heroes some of his stew, and asked them to contribute something in return. Hypatia offered a stone from another plane of existence whereas Nero offered some mushrooms collected in his travels. Ra'a'l, of course, offered blood and Corinna put a pine brew in the cauldron. Tridge did not offer an ingredient, but rather a sick spoon from which to serve the stew. All these gifts were appreciated and our adventurers were rewarded.
