The Heart of Everything
The Heart of Everything, a shimmering core of energy rising out of the earth.
From one angle it looks like flame, from another white-crested waves. Sometimes it ripples as if a light summer wind moves through it and sometimes it seems as solid as the ground beneath your feet.
It is a delicate gray, the color of a young dove in early morning sunlight. It is every shade of blue you could imagine and then more, a white so crisp and clear that when you look directly at it your eyes are forced to see color, shifting shades of yellow and green, violet and orange. It is every color and none, sometimes a black so deep it envelops you in its embrace.
There is sound, though none you could describe or even focus your attention on, a feeling of song, the vibration of a pounding heart, the whisper of breathing trees and sliding sand, always there at the edge of awareness.
And sometimes a silence so deep you forget everything except your breath, filling your lungs until you feel them stretch the muscles of your chest, holding almost to the point of pain, then release - a reminder that you are alive, you are a piece of this mystery, this miracle.
