A sudden spike in volcanic activity on Dragarian Isles and Itavian Peninsula causes several massive eruptions, thus starting a short-time ice age.
The exact cause of Red Year occuring remains unknown - some claim it to be a work of some deities, others believe it was some side effect of depth charges used by Xylian Dominion during Black Iron War.
What is, however, known is that it caused sudden spike of volcanic activity within approximately a single year, with Dragarian Isles and Itavian Peninsula hit especially hard. That in turn caused a sudden drop of temperatures and crippling famine that reigned for many years to come, causing a drop in population due to starvation and ensuing plagues. For some time wars mostly stopped, for civilizations had something else to worry about.
