Xylian attempts assault on both Lana and Clockwork Isles - the center of Mechanics power - in attempt to defeat the newly noticed threat.
After Lana was annexed by Mechanics - that did next to nothing to the continent, since their Command AI was interested only in denying Xylian Dominion of secrets hidden in abandoned Kivanthian cities - Xylians were outraged.
After finally getting rid of the kivanthians, rather than being able to exist in peace they were ambushed and assaulted by a completely new foreign power. Soon their whole civilization, mobilized for a total war for the first time in their history (since their conquest of Karathia that took more than a thousand of years to be completed).
Against an enemy that surpassed them in strenght at least as much as they surpassed the primitive human tribes. If the Command AI mobilized entirety of its strenght, the war would end in few days top. However, as it was still hiding its true power, the war took many years to finally finish, with military expenditures alone nearly ruining the Dominion. What's more, they lost completely.
