The Thaumic War

The longest and most destructive conflict in the history of Valessia and all Gardens. The Thaumic War changed not only the society but the face of Valessia for good.

The Conflict

Prelude

Tensions have been steadily rising ever since the invention of Thaumaturgy. Its negative and harmful effects not only on living beings, but also the world's aura have led to a rise of anti-thaumaturgy groups. The most prominent of these was the Valliance, comprised largely of auric beings, though many others have also joined their efforts. It was the Valliance who, on the 6th month of the year 205 TA, declared war on the Thaumic Alliance.

Deployment

The Thaumic Alliance was quick to mobilize their forces. Production of war machines in Runa and Bradva began almost immediately after the declaration of war.   On their own side, the Valliance has received the support of Thirdseed, king of Druids and Spirits. Many powerful beings joined their side of the conflict.

The Engagement

The Thaumic Alliance was quick to strike. They expanded southward, building forts and barriers after taking over a territory. Their war machines were a terrifying force, each matching in power the most powerful druids, with the added "benefit" of causing increased harm to auric beings.

Outcome

The Thaumic Alliance would have easily won, were it not for unforeseen disaster. The thaumaturgical factories in Runa exploded. In its wake, the explosion mutated organic matter and left all aura depleted and tainted. The results were manifold - death, inability to continue military development, and the realization of extreme dangers of thaumaturgy. The quarterling authorities in Bradva and Soul quickly recalled the Alliance forces and prepared for a peace treaty.

Aftermath

Changes started happening quickly after the end of the war. The Academical Federation of Auric and Thaumic Beings was established; thaumaturgy was outlawed and heavily regulated in the south of Valessia; Valvinnia, the first thaumaturgy-free city was established. Over the years, many regulations came into place for the use, development, and expansion of thaumaturgical devices.
