Runesmithing
Runesmithing is the process by which a skilled metalsmith inlays an item with Wylden Silver using runes of the Ænönað; this imbues the item with special powers and/or properties, depending on the arrangement of the runes.
The Wylden are willing to trade in Runesmithed goods, but do not share the secrets of the process with any other country.
Since the scope and potency of the effect(s) of Runesmithing vary according to the intricacy, repetition, and knowledge involved in the crafting, the complexity of the process also varies widely. The most basic, functioning examples still required a great deal of time and effort, especially since once begun, the process must be finished in one sitting if it is to be successful. The most powerful and potent Runesmithed items required hours of exacting and grueling work.
Originally, Runesmithing was a process known only to the gods, specifically Gáðæn and Gorðmund. During The Godswar, Gáðæn taught the process to the Dire Ravens at Væð's request, using the mysterious Godsrunes (Geðrúnen in Tallað). During the Migration, to aid Sæga Hrafnárí in founding the Twin Orders and further uniting the sundered kindreds of the Wylden, Gáðæn's raven companion Gæðenföss translated the Geðrúnen into a new runescript, crafting the Ænönað. With the creation of the Ænönað, Wylden smiths were then taught Runesmithing, in a form that is less potent, but still exceptionally valuable.
