Jórveif (YOR.vayf, YOR.wayf)

A Jórveif (pl. Jórveifen) is one of the geopolitical subdivisions of Hrafnawyld, of which there are six in the present day. In many ways, these Wylden territories are autonomous and independent of each other, with many of their own laws, customs, and methods of choosing leadership. They all share strong bonds of language, culture, and economy however, with certain structures creating common threads throughout all six Jórveifen, leading most outside observers to classify Hrafnawyld as a whole as a kind of confederacy.

The word has no direct translation, but can be roughly read as "Lord-hold".

The Six Jórveifen of Modern Hrafnawyld

Icewall Glacier (Ísvalðjökull)

Icewall is where the final victory of The Godswar was achieved, the binding of the dark Únðár goddess Ísje, and is where the Sisterhood of Binnigðúm guard the spear of Gáðæn, maintaining her bonds. It is thus considered to have been the first Jórveif, founded immediately upon the conclusion of the War. The first Jór of Icewall was Þeinne daughter of Heiggír the Ravenfriend, also known to history as Þeinne Svarthámmur or the First Blackhammer.

Founded by the legendary Heiggír the Ravenfriend, Black Mountains Jórveif is home to much of the mining from which the Wylden derive their superb steel, as well as much of the Wylden Silver produced on the island. The reclusive Jörðtrúlen, commonly called "earth trolls", are also native to the mighty peaks.

The Ravenfjords (Hrafnafjorðen)

The rugged Ravenfjords form the third of the original three Jórveifen, founded immediately after the Godswar by Hákken son of Heiggír the Ravenfriend, who became both the first Godhammer, and the first Jór of Hrafnafjorðen. The ancient and dense woods of the Ravenfjords are host to the last known Fájunn populations on Gæðí, and the high western cliffs are part of the ancestral homelands of the Dire Raven race.

South Bay (Súðejasvík)

Súðejasvík Jórveif was founded in 259ATC by the decree of Bjór Svarthámmur, first Gánjór of Hrafnawyld, to help organize and integrate the swelling population of Ancestral Wylden arriving from Abhagan during Flýttírwylden (the Migration). In the modern era, the eponymous capital is the largest and most prosperous port in Hrafnawyld.

The Silverlands (Sílfurlúnðr)

Organization | Mar 22, 2025

Founded in 290ATC by an aging Gánjór Bjór Svarthámmur, the Silverlands comprise the most fertile and agriculturally productive territory on the island, trading extensively with their neighbors, and are known for the strong influence of their Ancestral Wylden roots.

The Northfjords (Norðurfjorðen)

The cold, distant Northfjords were the last region of Hrafnawyld to be settled extensively, not being organized into a Jórveif until 490ATC during the anti-piracy campaigns of Ginnivýð the Red, who became the first Jór Norðurfjorðen. The region has long been notorious for harboring pirates and raiders, as the extensive fjords and coastline offer near limitless opportunities for the outcasts of society to find refuge.
