Fae
Their older than humans, the Folkain would call them the children of gods but we call them monsters. They live in the forests and the swamps, where humans dare not go. They steal our children, and replace them with their own, they play tricks on travelers and leave traps and make deals that end with death or torture of a unique kind. Leave them alone, don't make the deal, don't listen to the music, don't dance, run. They aren't the childen of gods they are the children of every bad thing in the world and they are cruel because they can be.
But if you don't believe they exist, ignorance is bliss.
In Maria's time people believe them unreal, in Xexilia's people try to avoid them knowing they exist.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Fae of the forest often are darker in coloring than their more watery counterparts. or can be pale as their more closely related to their sisters of the sea. Often they have tails, and sometimes they can have gossamer protrusions to help identify changes in the air.
Biological Traits
The fae all have one thing in common once an age of development is complete their cells slow and await commands to for how to change, the genes a fae might cary matter less than their environment, as such fae fear if humans found out and steal their young to make them slaves but still do this their selves in hopes that humans won't relish.
Genetics and Reproduction
Fae have longer life spans and within these times they can bring on heat through sexual intercourse however females have very few eggs comparatively to female humans, this is why they often leave their children as changelings in hopes human estrogen will improve fertility and for males to take a liking to females so there are halflings.
Growth Rate & Stages
A fae grows slowly after birth, they are born twelve months after conception, the mother only shows the last months and barley. The baby grows up from the side of a large kitten to the size of a human infant in three years. After this the children grow at a much slower rate then humans this is because their cells stop producing the growth enzyme rapidly and after about a hundred years they will reach teenage year then another 50 years to maturity. After this the fae grow only hair and nails till their about 500 then they begin to age by losing color and energy, unlike humans height doesn't tell you how old they are. No one has found for certain to what age they can live. Some cases would suggest to 700 others say to a thousand or longer.
Ecology and Habitats
They prefer the deep forest or even a jungle like environment where the soil is rich and the life is plentiful, their temperature tolerance is high comparatively to their more watery sisters. They cab be found to live in trees, caves even under the ground, by singing to nature they build these spaces.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They hunt and gather but eating is only part of their diet, some can absorb sunlight. Those who can't often absorb energy directly from plants through creatures.
Biological Cycle
Some fae hibernate at unpredictable intervals, whole families can go to sleep awaiting for the great shine to return if they prefer the day.

Social Structure
The forest goers have lass structure then those of the desert and mountain but more then the sea and plains. In the forests there are four leaders commonly. The seelie, the unseelie, the hunter, and the huntress. The seelie are governed by the best illusionist or magic user, these fae are seen more commonly, and are most similar to humans, the unseelie are governed by the best killer magical or otherwise they keep the dangerous fae in line and have very little structure. The hunter is the leader of the wild things the lower fae and solitary beings and protector of that which passes between. The huntress is the protector of small fae, the delicate ones who are reclusive and easily harmed by human made things these fae are still dangerous but more so to their own kind who respect them as the centers of magic, these ones are diving out.
Domestication
The tame fae are those who can be bought or who like humans, these are the pooka, the banshee, the brownie type creatures. Though never trust safe or passive but they can more easily be found and traded with.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The fae have many uses but to exploit them must be done at ones own risk.
Facial characteristics
Most have triangular or diamond shaped faces, with defined boning, either naked faced or furred and slitted tongues for some. Eyes with adjustable purples or even a familiar aspect are common and some fae have altered their faces with inks and piercings. Their ears are often elongated curling over their head behind their necks or simply pointed.

Average Intelligence
Fae do possess intelligence but there very different from what the human's would call civilized, driven heavy by instinct, desire, and trickery fae find play more intellectually engaging than work. They are cunning and tricky and their talent for language allows them a distant please in word play. Though their society favors the rules of the strong survive and very little structure is present.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The fae are very sensitive in air shifts and movements in the earth. They have excellent sight though some better than others. Their senses are easy agitated so they hate too much noice unless its musical. They can feel the death of things as the creatures call out in pain, one reason they like tormenting humans but wall away before they dye is because they hate the creatures cry.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
They cohabit with creature, animals and humans. Even having a work animals for messages and warning systems and guards. Often they attract lower fae, these are creatures of intelligence that can't communicate with languages recognized by humans and that either are helpful or harmful with little in-between.

Naming Traditions
The fae do not name their children anymore, they abandon them soon after their third year, the child must then choose where it will find its home and upon finding a place it receives a name based upon its new home. This is more common among the high fae. Changelings and halflings usually have human names and human children who are stolen are named by their masters for where they where taken from. For example a girl is born from a fae and raised by its parent until she's left in the middle of the territory, she then will walk until she finds a place to rest, the fae believe Danu choses where you end up and the territory she settles she will integrate with the local fae unless she continues to walk, then she will find a place unoccupied and after living there until the age she is accepted as a member and upon acceptance she will present a name to her ruling body, so if this girl settled in the waterfall area of a forest where the seelie fae reign and she became a dweller in the caves caring for the vines and keeping humans away from the water she might name herself Hestria, the fae word for warden of flowing water.

All fae share one religious belief system, they are the children of god, they passed this religion to humans. There are ruins from their past civilization. Then off branches have spread to basically every unexplored region.
Beauty Ideals
Th seelie believe that the more humanoid fae but with more exaggerated aspects are beautiful, these aspects are usually their eyes, ears, and nails or hands and the proportion of their libs. The unseelie like darker beauty and see the glory in scares and ever dangerous beauty. The small folk are strange in their tastes and solitary fae each have their own ideas. Lower fae are considered generally ugly.
Gender Ideals
Females are seen as natural leaders and often less glamourous then the males who are more showy and flighty, women can be violent, temperamental and secretive.
Courtship Ideals
Courtship between fae is complicated men show off and if a women becomes interested she might attack him, biting him to show him as her prospect or if he fends her off the man can chose to accept her or not. After this the man must fight the female's closest and the female must challenge the males protector. If both are show to be strong they then can enter a courtship where they interact sexually or even care for one another, this relationship can be platonic as well. Courtship between the same gender fae is much less fan fair, since hey can't make children they may court their intended by simply approaching them.

Etiquette to fae is often overlooked in the presence of other fae, unless one of the four ruling people are present etiquette is used for large social events such as revels and when interacting with humans.

None, nudity is not unseemly but the more human seeking fae like to dress so the humans don't over react. Other fae dress for protection or to draw attention in some way.

History
The fae where an emerging species when the meteor hit and destroys most large life, this allowed the fae to gain more space in the population race but soon their food sources became scarce and it was clear that there was a new species emerging that the fae could not bond with like other creatures being to advanced themselves. They spread out as far and as wide as possible looking for food, the fae originally a mountain and forest faring race only moved into deserts and seas and out as far as they could and they learned to gain sustenance from the creatures and the sun. They lost much as well with their cells tendency to mutate they changed to the point of not recognizing themselves and soon not being able to have children or even a tendency towards fertility as they lived longer their culture expanded but their populations devoured almost everything. The fae mastered the world and then relied the cost, humans where a branch off the tree that seemed different from them, not flowed and paralyzed as they where they pulled back to their original homes and cut themselves off from their sisters, those who lived in the waters or islands or plains where stuck and the fae slowly but surly forgot the great civilization they built as a knew race strove for what the fae once had.

Morigan la Fae was the first Changeling, she then betrayed her human companions who wished to steal fae children for stealing their own.
Lastia la Car was a fae of seelie who cast an enchantment of illusion so powerful it lasts to this day, many debate what the illusion is or was as its said that part of its magic is to appear without dough of its authenticity.
Mauve la Oce was a Queen who united the fae, the first to do so she started the first great ciliation
Faul la Vel was a sayer of the consort he is notable for being the bringing of the consorts words to life.

Folkain, the fae have many local myth and tale as well such as certain magics that have been lost to them or tales of the old cities when they ruled the lands many fae don't believe the tales of grander.

Average Physique
The average carnivorous fae has fangs and are often fured, horned, or tailed. The average omnivore fae has gossamer protrusions that curve over the back most often, fur, or animal like eyes with teeth more similar to a humans . The herbivore often has blunted teeth, leathery green skin, larger ears, and gossamer protrusions. All fae are slim and lengthy often they can have more joints in their fingers or claws, often they have skin similar to a dolphins that they often shed or hard leathery skin that is hard to penetrate. Some fae lack eye brows and eyelashes instead having a second eyelid or whiskers.

Most fae of this reagin are green, brown, grey or white, some of the addition of stripes, spots, scales and other camoflage.
