Without their rulers, dragons and giants began to form kingdoms of their own, as did the first dwarves, elves, and other elder races. The Dragon-Giant Wars was a major conflict fought for four centuries during this period. The dragons and giants enslaved and created their own races to fight for them. In the end, the war was stopped when they were forced to make peace once more, thanks to the formation of the Obsidian Gate. Afterwards, humanoids began to re-establish their kingdoms once more, and civilization as we know it started to flourish. However, it only did so until the Cataclysms.
