Pyre of Oaths

When a member of the Uthgarian Sconce passes away, they are honored with a funeral rite known as the Pyre of Oaths. The deceased is placed upon a bed of kindling and sacred woods, surrounded by the weapons and tokens of their fulfilled oaths. As the pyre is lit, the Oathrites and Flamekeepers recite the vows the individual upheld in life, ensuring that their soul is carried to Faeste on the smoke of the flames. It is believed that Uthgar will receive the soul of the departed in his fiery realm, where they will continue to serve him in the afterlife. The ashes of the pyre are then collected and mixed with molten metal to forge a new weapon, which is given to the next generation of the Sconce as a symbol of the unbroken chain of oaths that bind them to their god.
