Kenji Xing
Kenji Xing carried the weight of a bloodstained lineage, his family once devout followers of Vlox, the god of debauchery and corruption. Though he distanced himself from their ways, the remnants of their dark faith were written into the very fabric of his life. The Merkaynian Enclave had nearly wiped out his ancestors, and in recent years, a northern faction of the Enclave finished the job, slaughtering his immediate family. The texts and rituals he inherited made him a target, and Incinerin saw his knowledge as a tool to twist the will of the divine. The Kingfishers invaded his home, demanding that he perform the ancient rite to corrupt a god’s message. Kenji, bound by the threat to his family, complied—only to see them murdered before him. His wife, a caster of remarkable power, unleashed a deadly explosion as Kenji opened the family’s hidden safehouse. Dragging his loved ones through the flames, he watched his wife fall to a crossbow bolt before he could escape.
Kenji despises Vlox’s influence, yet he fears that his use of the corrupted sigil has left him vulnerable to the god’s insidious grasp. While he fights to preserve free will, the shadows of his lineage continue to tug at him. He believes the Puzzle Cube of Vlox, sealed away in Clarion by the Seekers, holds the key to undoing the corruption he unwillingly unleashed. However, retrieving it would mean confronting the very people who built a fortress around it to prevent its power from ever surfacing again.
Kenji's family descended from the followers of Vlox, the God of Debauchery and Corruption. Most of that cult was eradicated by the Merkaynian Enclave about 50 years before. Kenji's immediate family met their end at the hands of a northern faction of the Enclave not that long ago. The books and documents passed down through his family as well as the rituals he was taught when he was young was why Incinerin targeted him.
The Kingfishers forced him to show them the ritual to corrupt a God's message, and with enough will, the power to corrupt entirely to bend the deities to your own goals is possible. Most people who follow the cult can cause minor issues within a local church but someone as driven as Incinerin was able to use the power much more effectively.
Although Kenji does not follow his family ways, the Kingfishers were able to invade his home just before the breaking of the Seal and before the dragons reawoke. Incinerin threatened to kill the man's family if he didnt help. Kingfishers were posted there watching over Kenji until a few days before you arrived when Incinerin made the call to squash any loose ends. Kenji's wife was a caster and as soon as the Kingfishers turned and killed her children, she caused an explosion as Kenji was able to open the family safehouse that housed the history of the Cult of Vlox. He escaped down the chute dragging his family to not have them burn in the fire. His wife was killed after he opened the door by a crossbow.
Kenji is worried that using the symbol has caused Incinerin to not even know that he no longer serves his own purposes. He will fight to stop free will but he is being influenced by the subtle actions of Vlox.
When asked if the corruption can be undone, Kenji wasn't sure but knows there is an artifact in Clarion being quarantined in its resting place at a Church of Vlox. The Puzzle Cube of Vlox has many abilities affiliated with its creator. If anything could solve the corruption it would be that box. Unfortunately the church was eradicated and sent into hiding shortly after Boto and Remus Silverstaff traveled to Fogholt and cured the Fogholt Plague. Remus and the Seekers then took the church to build a Seeker stronghold around the resting place of this dangerous artifact.
Behind the facade of humanitarian efforts, Kenji harbored a darker ambition. The church's basement reveals a vast map, a web of interconnected towns and alliances that Kenji hoped to manipulate for his cause.
He attempted to destroy the religious temples on Eidon during the Sansaint’s Festival but was stopped before giving the connection to the gods as a gift to Vlox. Kenji was killed in the fighting.
