Basinthwa

worshippers of Sootha   The Basinthwa are the followers devoted to Sootha, the Tempest, goddess of water, storms, and the sea, whose turbulent legacy defines the coastal regions and the island cultures of Pacura. Their faith is anchored in the tales that Sootha, with her mortal consort, Oceanus Tempest, lifted their islands from the ocean's depths, forging the Pacuran archipelago from countless scattered islets. People were brought here centuries ago as Pacura quickly grew. Only the native Doth Kai chose to stay on the islands of the Shipsplitters instead of joining the new culture. The Basinthwai hold deep appreciation for the nine islands, each presided over by a Stormblood, a descendant of Sootha and Oceanus with a direct connection to the goddess's lingering power. Their rituals reflect the sea's dual nature—both a giver of life and a harbinger of destruction. Central to their worship is the Row of the Broken Mast, a ceremony conducted during the fiercest storms, where offerings are cast into the waves to appease Sootha’s spirit, seeking her protection and favour. Funerals involve a somber journey to the stormiest waters, where the deceased are consigned to the sea, believed to be reclaimed by Sootha’s embrace. Though Sootha’s madness led to her tragic demise at the hands of Oceanus, the Basinthwa believe her essence endures in every wave, watching over her children and the islands she shaped, her love for them holding back the worst of her wrath. The people of the Basinthwa know that nothing can calm the storm, they simply request their matron sends her waves elsewhere during their journeys.
