National Army Military Formation in Galen | World Anvil

National Army

The National Army are the Armed Forces of the Socialist Republic of Weltkria (SRW).   It is split into three branches; the Air Force, Army and Navy. The National Army is commanded by the National Defense Council headquartered in Insburg. Conscription is mandatory for all males 18 and up, with non-combat roles offered to objectors.   Formed in 1912 after the May Coup, the National Army is the replacement for the Weltkrian Imperial Army. The National Army is considered one of the best militaries in Gaden, continually topping lists for most disciplined and trained army. Over one million men are scattered throughout the professional ranks of the National Army, with conscripts making up a 1.2 million men reserve force. National Army units have seen combat during the Isles War, Northern Crisis, and a number of other campaigns and proxy wars.

Composition

Manpower

Ardenian Contingency plans for a Weltkrian Invasion called for immediate withdrawl in case of Weltkrian Attack - it was planned to let the FAF bleed them out, then storm in once their nodes were all gone.

At over three million men, 200,000 of which are in the elite Northern Command divisions, the National Army is considered the largest army in the world. Conscription is active throughout all walks of life - however, volunteering is actively encouraged, with hundreds of benefits encouraging volunteer forces.

Equipment

The MBT-92 is the mainline Main Battle Tank for the National Army, and is capable of matching older Ardenian Models - however, with newer carbyne-sabot and with Ardenian materials science being lightyears ahead of the National Army, the newest Ardenian Tanks - from the experimental, coilgun-equipped M8A1, to the laser-equipped, ETC equipped M7A1, all of which are issued to Mechanized Infantry units across the front. Rarely seen is the MBT-10, able to match every Ardenian Tank - however, this is a rare sight, only seen in Northern Command regiments.   Thousands of Aircraft are in active service with the National Army, despite this, life expetancy times for late-war aviators are in the minutes, due to Ardenian superiority in aerial combat and aerospace engineering. Metamaterial weaves are standard issue for all units to allow some sort of survivability from massive aircraft strikes and to conceal National Army units from massive air campaigns. Centerpiece to Weltkrian Air Defense is the Glatisant LRAD and Lighting MRAD, allowing for theatre and medium-range air defense, allowing for gradual degredation of Ardenian Air - if they are not destroyed in the early hours due to dedicated SEAD campaigns.   Rearline assets are somewhat neglected, however, intelligence corps does recieve signal monitoring and jamming equipment - along with AEW&C aircraft - not as much as the Federal Air Force, but certainly enough to change the tide of battle against a lower-tech nation.   Spacecraft are in active service - however, these models are quite old and no match for the newer classes, such as the Nevoi and Callisto Class of spacecraft, issued by the Ardenian Space Forces.

Structure

Central to the proper functioning of National Army units is the Battalion Command Group, a battalion-level consortium of units, ranging from Armor to Mechanized Infantry to other such units. The BCG is designed in such a way that the battalion - the lowest echelon unit with actual tactical autonomy, can manuver in a indenpdent manner and wage a compentent combined arms campaign.   Orders are issued from Divisional Command, which are then issued to the BCG - once the BCG recieves their orders, the Battalion commander will determine the way to proceed - however, this system is wholly different in Northern Command. Specialized Intelligence Corps units are at the divisional level - unlike the Ardenians, with Signals assets detached across entire platoons.

Tactics

Weltkrian Doctrine prioritizes air-superiority, massed armor movements, fire-superiority and envelopment of enemy forces. Heavy air-operations usually preclude any ground operations. Targets of these operations are enemy infrastructure, logistics lines and warehouses. SEAD operations also occur to degrade enemy IADs overtime.   When enemy air-defense has been degraded and air-dominance secured, spearhead armored units rush forward - seizing as much territory as possible and encircling enemy units. Aircraft continue to degrade enemy command installations and force communications and electrical blackouts, ensuring that the maximum degree of chaos is obtained.   Mechanized infantry follows the spearhead, securing towns, cities and supply lines for the spearheads to continue advancing. Lighter units push in to secure holes in the frontline and consolidate gains.
