The army of Grávik

The Army of Grávik is not one that is marching in perfect lines, nor is it one that is assembled on the city walls and gates ready to attack. First, you must know that Grávik is located at the base of a mountain, and the city's roads are narrow and winding. There are multiple walls before one can enter the city, and yes, there are archers on the walls... but they are not the army, they are part of the regular defence. The army consists of footmen and cavalry. Footmen move in small groups of 10-20 amongst the rocks, armed with bows for long-distance attacks and swords or axes for close-range combat. Theis armor is light, mostly made of leather, to enable fast moving and good agility, they wear light shoes, and their best advantage is how well they know the terrain. Each small group has a leader, and the groups move independently of each other. If the enemy were ever to try and march to the city, they would find themselves not being able to march side by side, but having to proceed in a line, one by one.   That gives the Grávik army an advantage, because they are used acting in small groups, and being used to the difficult terrain, they are fast and agile among the rocks, and do not need paths or trails to move effectively. They will jump from stone to stone if they need to. Their bows are small and light, and their arrowheads as well as swords are treated with poison from the mountain trolls. It is normal for the norhtern folks to have all genders fighting.   The cavalry uses small, local horse breeds, that are used to the rocky mountains and are steady on their feet, brave and easy to train. They are somewhat smaller than other horses, about 130-140 cm in height, but well suited for the small statue of the northern people, who are usually short and light in their build. The cavalry is equipped lightly as well, the horses have very light armour, as do the riders. Their primary weapon is a bow, and their aim is to not engage in close combat. They do however wield swords in case they ever need to. The cavalry acts alone, but each of them are aware of the others all the time. Their aim is to take a longer route and get to the enemy's sides and back. The rider typically does not use the reins to steer the horse, but keeps their hands free to use the bow. The horses are taught voice commands as well.   Grávik is a strong military town, and their army is big compared to the city's population. The city also has excellent defences against dragons, including giant crossbows situated on the city walls, aimed for the sky. The Dragon Island is not far away fron the coast, and dragons may fly great distances in hunt for food. Often it is enough to hide inside, and let the dragon pass, but occasionally the dragons attack the city, and the giant crossbows are used. They wield regular arrows, but exploding ones too, which main purpose is to scare the dragons away rather than kill them. Usually the young ones are more easily scared.   When talking about the Army of Grávik, one cannot omit the mountain trolls. They are creatures who dwell in the mountains, as the name suggests, and are in alliance with the city. They do not come to the city and defend it on demand, but in case the enemy ever would be able to pass all the way through the city and proceed tot he mountains (the trolls have riches there), they would have to deal with the trolls. Also if they happen to be in the city or around it, and come in contact with a stranger, they will definitely defend themselves and question the stangers reason to be there. A mountain troll of the north is a creature with greyish skin, and not a lot of body hair. They do wear clothes to protect themselves from the cold. They have long pointy ears, their body build is slender, with fairly long arms and legs, they are muscular and agile, and only slightly smaller than an average human. They speak their own language, but are capable of human speech as well. They fight fiercely, and most often use a spear or an axe. The mountain trolls are alerted whenever the city of Grávik is under attack.   The Army of Grávik is a powerful one, and despite being far far in the eastern corner of the north, they are well known within the country as well as beyond it's borders. As well as being the defence of the city of Grávik, they are part of the defence of the whole country, and are sometimes sent to fight in other places of the nation. They are a very versatile group, who are especially effective in fighting in difficult terrain. They can move stealthily among trees and rocks, and can easily surprise their enemy.
