Medical Nanotech

Historically, Sērbaka have held a strange dichotomy toward those with disabilities. Most disabled tend to be looked down upon, especially in circumstances where the disability adversely effects an individual’s productivity. Simultaneously however, depending on the disability, Sērbaka may treat the individual with a certain level of reverence, especially if the individual puts forth maximum effort in defiance of their disability. In this way, those who acquire injuries that disable them, are treated with respect, though they are still expected to pull their weight, while those born with defects are treated poorly by comparison, especially, if they cannot perform at reasonable levels.

Medical nanotech has come a long way in the past decades. In the field, preprogrammed machines held in a synthetic blood solution when injected network, seek out injuries and defects for repair, and effect the necessary repairs. In the laboratory, these machines may be programmed specifically to handle specific complex tasks, including regrowing lost limbs.

Scars are a sign of perseverance, the struggles of life leaving their mark on the body and the mind; things to be extolled. So, to are the loss of digits or appendages, but these carry the weight of idleness, which is a death sentence to Sērbaka.

Access & Availability

Uncommon, predominantly military application, though most hospitals and clinics are equipped with a limited supply to administer lifesaving treatments in instances where it would otherwise be impossible, provided the technology carries a significantly high success rate in itself; no point wasting valuable tech on a lost cause.

Outside of military, hospital, or clinic use, a small kit may be obtained, which are preprogrammed for basic repairs – aids blood clotting, acts as an antiviral, kills bacteria, combats venoms and poisons, as well as targeted tissue repair. These kits are entirely tamper-resistant, any attempt to connect to the nanites results in their immediate self-destruction.

Complexity

Nanotech in general is exceptionally complex, a multi-discipline process is employed in their manufacture, requiring rigorous testing and safety protocols. The manufacturing, programming, and deployment are carefully guarded secrets with only a minority aware of the full procedures.

So complex are they, that conventional lifesaving, and treatment options are considered and administered well before medical nanotech is considered for deployment, but in cases where conventional procedures failed, it tends to do well.
