Icetalon Clan

We, the silver dragonborn of Kethendia, were refugees like the other clans after the eruption of Klauth's Fury. However, rather than relocate over a great distance, our great chieftain Tazlin recognized the fear and the poor state his followers were in. And so, instead of forcing us to travel further form our home in such a condition, Tazlin found a deep cave on a nearby mountain in which to rest his clan. The cave went on and on, and Tazlin followed, until he reached an immense cavern in which lay a vast lake. Here, our clan settled and have lived ever since.

The Icetalon clan, one of the four dragonborn clans of Kethendia, live deep within Icetalon Spire. Here, in a cavern known as Tazlin's Cavern, their city Tazlina sits at the edge of a great underground lake. The clan took shelter from the frequent eruptions of the nearby Klauth's Fury by remaining underground for millennia. WHile they occasionally breach the surface and travel across to the mainland, Icetalon dragonborn have become sensitive to light and find it uncomfortable to be exposed to its rays for extended periods of time.

Tazlina

The Icetalon clan has made its home deep in a cave system, building a city called Tazlina in the largest cavern they could find. Here, the dragonborn survive on subterranean food such as mushrooms and fish. The city is overseen by a monarch and five chosen elders who keep one another in check and ensure that all members abide by the law. The monarch lives within Tazlina Castle, where they allow citizens to petition for audiences and bring their concerns straight to the monarch. Tazlina was founded after the destruction of Silvermere, where the gravely injured remnants of the Icetalon tribe headed for the first shelter they could find. The city sits alongside a lake which provides ample fresh water and fish, and the cavern is connected to a vast network of tunnels which give the clan access to other sources of food, particularly the favored drakhaar.

Traditions

The Icetalon clan thinks of light as another precious resource, and as such many of its feasts and traditions are centered around light. Despite being sensitive to the sun's rays, the Icetalon clan places particular importance on the feast day of Elena the sun deity, believing that it is the sun from which all light is in some way derived. In addition, the lake by which the clan lives is affected greatly by seasons and thus the changing of the sun's path across the sky that they cannot see. Special days are also reserved for the gathering of aermov, the clan's only consistent light source. The Icetalon is unique in that it relies solely upon this moss for illumination, delegating the use of flames entirely to cooking. The clan has even perfected a method by which to maximize the moss's glow and duration when removed from where it grows on cavern walls. Drakhaar is another important resource to this subterranean clan, as one of the few consistent sources of food that the clan relies on. Fish abundance varies with the seasons and as such is less reliable.

Foreign Relations

Because of the clan's location deep within a mountain, it is very rare for travellers to find their way to Tazlina. Many of those who embark on a trip there end up lost within the cave system leading to the cavern. Additionally, the cave mouth's proximity to Klauth's Fury keeps it within the risk zone of its frequent eruptions, a threat enough to discourage many travellers from even beginning such a journey. Should a traveller arrive in Tazlina, they are met with caution and then welcome as the clan adjusts to strangers in such a well-isolated community. Visitors are often given the best treatment the clan can offer and tend to leave laden with gifts of the clan's creations. It is also rare to see an Icetalon dragonborn outside of their cavern because of their light sensitivity. Any that do venture out travel primarily at night or otherwise bundled in specially woven cloaks to keep the sun off them and out of their eyes. Such garb produces suspicion and curiosity, and Icetalons are so unused to attention from other creatures that the experience is too stressful to encourage such expeditions.
