Mech Suit

With the rapid development of weaponry, armour struggled to keep up. Common ceramics can resist laser weaponry to around the same degree than it can ballistic weapons but not mag weapons. Common assault suits were an invaluable innovation but even they were outclassed by heavy energy weaponry.

Armour could not get more advanced and still remain practical, so the mech suit was created; a suit of armour so heavy that a it would act as a prison were it not powered. Mech suits use localized fusion power generation to power a variety of servos, motors and artificial muscles which augment a pilot's capabilities while providing them a near immunity to most small arms fire.

Types of Mech

Mechs (shorthand for 'Mechanized Infantry') come in many forms but these can be largely catagorized into three main groups: Mech Suits, Light Mechs and Heavy Mechs.

Mech Suits

Mech suits are compact, being only slightly taller than common men. They weigh around 90-150kg, making them able to traverse most common terrain without risking damage to the surface. Their main draw is their cheapness or reproduction and the ability to mount heavy weaponry to them that would otherwise require a mounted, stationed position.

Light Mechs

Light mechs are significantly larger than mech suits, being around 4-5 meters tall and weighing somewhere in the region of 10 metric tonnes. A light mech has a specialized 'cockpit' for its pilot and they usually use screens and camera software to project an image to the pilot. This allows light mechs to be significantly more armoured than the suit variant. This inevitably comes with problems to their maneuverability. They are large, easy targets for rocket crews despite them being practically immune to small arms. There is also the problem of their weight to consider. They cannot walk across some floors as they will be too weak to hold them up.

Heavy Mechs

Heavy mechs are the result of human nature taking everything to its logical extreme. Mechs of this caliber are hard to come by as they take immense technological prowess to make. Heavy mechs have the largest range of sizes, from the size of buildings to the size of skyscrapers (the smaller ones are naturally easier to find and way more practical). Heavy mechs boast an incredible armament and thick armour plating making them bastions of death on the battlefield. Most heavy mechs are used as artillery units due to their poor maneuverability and the challenge of getting through common obstacles like other buildings.
