Orion Casper
Orion was a Human Paladin, who he got his magic from a demonic deal. He was a player character of the
Heretics resistancecampaign, played by Lottie.
Because he was the second in line, Orion was blessed without the responsibilities and worries of having to rule a kingdom, and was instead mostly free to do as he chose. The downside of this was that he was never the priority of his Father's attention, and had to prove himself excellent in everything to gain some recognition. When not busy with mandatory studies and sword lessons, he spent a lot of time with his little sister, Daphne and his mother. When he got older and a little more rebellious, he snuck out to meet with other children his age. It was a breath of fresh air and the children didn’t seem concerned with his heritage. His father eventually found out about this throug rumours, Orion being pressured sold his friends out, telling they forced him to play. After the incident with his father, he became more closed off. His frustration with his father (and himself) made him into a very unpleasant teenager. He settled into a selfish and immature persona. Privileged, but not acknowledged. He sought out attention he didn’t receive elsewhere; being a prince made sure to attract lots of interested women, and he enjoyed their shallow interest, and their genuine attraction.
Not long after his 18th birthday, his mother passed away after an accident befell her carriage. His younger sister had just been betrothed to a powerful allied family and Orion felt incredibly lonely. His grief made him overcompensate even more, and although he was charming and charismatic, he was generally not considered kind or compassionate.
He met Edith when he was 19 years old and took one look at her beautiful complexion and blue eyes and decided that she would be the one he’d marry. Edith did not come from a powerful family and possessed a talent for magic, but she lived a humble life as a seamstress, The business she’d worked in had been commissioned for cloaks for the season. He charmed her with his words and romantic gestures, and honestly, she didn’t have much of a choice, as one couldn’t just turn down the advances of a royal. She did grow to love him though, and Orion married her (much to his father’s and brother's disapproval) barely 6 months later. Orion was not a cruel husband, but his selfish nature, fear of abandonment and shallow interest in women made him possessive. Edith was not allowed to go out unaccompanied, or be alone with any other man. She had mandatory training for her magical talents, despite having no interest in it. Although she’d loved him, Edith began to feel like a bird in a cage. She was there to be looked at, appreciated for her magical talents, but was not allowed to fly free.
When Orion was in his early twenties, unrest stirred the little kingdom. Tension in the castle was high, and when his brother did not return from investigating a certain organization called the Holy Cleansing, the civil anxiety sky-rocketed. This left the castle’s defenses shaky, and on a fateful day, Edith was attacked by the Faith in the courtyard, after she’d managed to sneak out without her guards. Orion was inconsolable and near maniacal. Someone had taken his wife, his wife away from him and he would not have it. He could not live without her, would not. She was his, she belonged by his side, forever. He swore not only revenge, but also to find a way to revive Edith, so that she could never leave him again and they'd be together as they should be. In his maniacal state; Orion, who’d read enough on all things supernatural in his youth, made a bargain with a demon in exchange for magical power and longevity Orion would have to give up his soul after his death; he would not be able to enter the afterlife or be reincarnated. He agreed too quickly and too impulsively and found he’d been tricked: the power he’d been given by the demon was not nearly strong enough to revive Edith.
Feeling cheated, consumed by grief, his desire for revenge, Orion set out to find the Holy Cleansing, and find a way to bring back his wife, without any concern for the increasing chaos in the kingdom, without any concern for his father, missing brother, and the future of the Casper dynasty, he left. 8 years later, his search has led him across the continent, he hasn’t returned home, nor has he heard any news from his family and their fate. His latest target is one of the high ranking priests of the organization, who’s reportedly residing in the city of Bersail. He’s been staying in the city to inventarise his chances of assassination, but quickly came to the conclusion that Cleansing’s presence is just too strong here to kill him without any help. After his 8 year hunt, he’s so far gone in his need for revenge that he’d wipe out the entire organization in Bersail if he could.
Orion joined a little group in Bersail, battling against the Witchhunters there. The details of this can be read in the Heretics resistancesession summaries. In short Orion during the campaign, had hired Benjamin as a bodyguard. The 2 met a wizard named Andry together with her the little group got into a mission for the Ethain family. Eventually with some detours this led to Orion and the group working for the Ethains to try and stop the witchhunters in the city. Through this Orion also got a wish of a ancient fey called Mathrell. Orion used this wish to bring Edith back to life. This however did not fully go as planend as the tree reincarnated Edith into a different body, despite Orion's efforts to shape it as best as possible. Edith was a Hobgoblin. This is the start of the rift between Edith and Orion as Edith slowly starts to express her want to explore the world and be free.

So instead he travels to his sister Daphne, She lived with the lord she'd been married off too, and after some convincing its him, he and Edith stay with Orion's sister a while. Orion didn't choose to help his brother, instead he traveled back to Bersail and took up the Ethain family offer to serve them as protection. Orion, over the years, transitioned from being protection to more of an advisory figure. First only to the Ethain's then to all kinds of powerfull people in and around Bersail. He became a power broker entrenched in Bersail's politics. Edith and Orion slowly drifted apart as the 2 no longer had similar interests and Edith simply wanted to be free. Orion later in life instead married Wenyld, who he met initally during the events of the heretics resistance campaign.

The reasons for getting his wife back is what made him spoiled, it was not love, rather a feeling of ownership. Next to getting his wife back he was also driven by revenge against the witchhunters and Holy Cleansings which took her away. At this point he was possessive, emotional, driven by anger and entitled. Throughout the story Orion changes somewhat through the people he met and what he experienced. He never fully loses the spoiled prince aspect but just a little bit he does let go from his anger and possessive nature as his (now ressurrected) wife takes her own path. Things Orion likes
Though the magic disguises itself in appearance, the origin of Orion's magic is in fact through a demonic deal in which he sold his soul upon his death. For that Orion had a seed of demonic magic healing placed in him, Orion thought he might be able to bring his wife back to life with it (the original reason he got it). Though he wasn't able to ressurrect with the magic, the energy is powerfull regardless. It extends his life span and allows him to heal those, the energy can also be converted into powerfull strikes instead, or more creative uses like invisibility. Not much is known about the demon which Orion made a deal with, but regardless it will not spell much good for his soul upon his death. Royal trained swordfighting
Being born a prince, Orion had formal swordsmanship training. This is the basis of his fighting style. A skilled diplomat
Flattery, deception and persuasion are skills which Orion is quite trained in. Beyond figting Orion uses this to get what he wants.
Story

His was only the third generation of Caspers to rule the kingdom, and enemies still sought ways to overthrow the Casper dynasty. It took him a while to realize but Benj was not only around because he was being payed, he enjoyed Orion's company. Benj was probably the person that mainly helped Orion start to realize he needed to let go of his obsession.
- Edith. Orion his wife, the person he started his whole journey for to try and find a way to bring her back. She was very much a possession to Orion which he sought to have back. Eventually Edith was ressurrected but changed species through the reincarnation. When she was back, Orion and Edith drifted apart a bit as Edith gained some independence to do what she truly wanted.
- Léon Casper. Orion his father, which he was neglected by during his youth. As the second in line Orion wasn't paid much attention to by his father. Inside him, Orion has a need to prove himself to his father.
Appearance
Orion has a slender build, but well defined muscles showing he knows his way around a sword. Notably, Orion doesn’t have any scars and a very kempt appearance. Orion has light blond hair with a slight curl, which falls slightly around his shoulders, and a fair and pale complexion that indicates a privileged upbringing. His eyes are a deep sea green, and his face shape is just as slender as the rest of him, with more cheekbones than cheek. Orion looks in his 20's despite being older due to his magic helping his appearance. Orion wears black leather pants, high quality knee boots with armored knee plates, and armored gloves with pointed ends for his fingers to match. Other than some light protection in the form of a padded jacket with golden stitching, he’s got surprisingly little armor. (he claims it’s suffocating and only slows him down) He usually sports a belt which holds his sword holster. and wears a high quality low cut black shirt. There is a golden amulet Orion carries, with the Casper family crest engraved (a raven with spreaded wings with a crossed sword and bow) which contains a small photograph/painting of his deceased wife. Notably she doesn’t smile the least bit in the picture, but rather looks a little sad. Orion also carries a long, thin sword given to him by his father, which has been handed down to the eldest son for generations. It’s grip is black, and its got gold and green accents on the hilt.Skills
