Naran
Naran was an NPC that appeared in the
Heretics resistance campaign.
He was a infamous witchhunter captain throughout all of the Holy Cleansings. He was stationed in Bersail at the end of the cleansings, there he was trying to bring about a prophecy to call an Angel down to the city.
Naran was a competent warrior wielding a incredibly large greatsword as his weapon, he also wore a metal mask obscuring his features. The mask served to hide his face from enemies, as protection and intimidation. Below the mask Naran was a normal human man with shaven short brown hair.
Naran doesn't see the heretical as worthy of mercy and as such seeks nothing but their extermination from this world in service of the Angel's faith. He does try to fight at least 1 spellcaster heretic 1 on 1 on each hunt he goes. The reason naran seeks single combat is to keep himself sharp and experienced in fighting mages. Naran says he'l let people go if they beat him, but that's always been a lie, he just uses it as practice.
Naran was a major antagonist in the Heretics resistance campaign. Being the one to apprehend the party and kill Andry around the start of the campaign. He appeared a few times throughout the campaign. During a gala Naran got a rivalry with pride through starting to beat him in a fight before the party and pride retreated. At the end of the campaign Naran used this to goad Pride into attacking him which he then used to capture him with magical iron bands. Naran did so because he was setting up a ritual for which he needed the souls.
When the ritual succeeded and Demos appeared instead of an angel, Naran was defeated. He gave up completely seeing, how all he has worked towards had been a lie and manipulation by an evil heretical creature.
Naran survived the end of the campaign, though mentally broken, it is unknown what happened to him, if he only doubled down on his beliefs harder or if the events made him rethink.
