Portal

School: Conjuration
Sub-School: Creation
Descriptor: None
Ritual: Yes
Level: Arcane & Divine 9th
Components: Material, Somatic & Verbal
Casting Time: Round
Range: Touch
Effect/Target: See Text
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Minute
Saving Throw: None   This spell functions similarly to Plane Shift, except you conjure a circular portal to another plane, or another location on the same plane.
This portal is between 5-20ft in diameter, glowing with astral light from its entrance, while the back shimmers with distorting mist.
As a Move action, any creature may attempt to touch the portal's entrance and step inside.
Touching the back does nothing, and feels like touching a force field.
Other substances or harmful effects do not enter the portal, such as the water of a river flowing towards the portal.   Once inside, a creature will find themselves in an 20ft wide, and 30ft long astral tunnel.
Once a creature reaches the other side, they may use another Move action to leave the tunnel and step out onto the portal's destination.
Looking through the exit points of the astral tunnel only provides a vague silhouette of what lies beyond.   Once the spell ends, the portal will close after 1 Round.
If any creature remains in the astral tunnel, they must roll a 1d4 and suffer the following effects:
  • 1 - The creature suffers the planar effects of Reality Maelstrom.
  • 2 - The creature is flung towards the destination plane, taking 5d10 Magic damage.
  • 3 - The creature is flung towards the origin plane, taking 5d10 Magic damage.
  • 4 - The creature is pushed back towards the plane they entered from.
If there is not enough room for the portal to form, the spell fails.
If a portal is attacked or otherwise affected by a damaging spell, ability or effect, you take 1d10 Psychic damage and must make a DC 30 Concentration check.
Creatures at the destination may also attempt to pass through the portal.
Select spells, and deities, have the power to prevent creatures from entering specific planes, or using portals in any fashion.   Material Component: Radiant Crimson Netheryte with a value of 1.000g
