Paladin
A west Calophesian religious rank, although one that sits on the edge of the main hierarchy. Before officially swearing an oath, a paladin is considered higher than an officient, beneath a priest and cleric, and equal to an acolyte. Upon swearing their oath, a paladin is seen as equal to a cleric and a priest.
A paladin is distinct from a cleric and a priest as they are seen as drawing their power from a personal dedication to their oath and by extension, their deity, as well as by virtue of their more militaristic training.
The specific title given to a person of this rank can also depend on the denomination they belong to, although they are all commonly referred to as 'paladins'.
