The Kingdoms of Eerl

"The once noble Lakefolk of Eerl to the North have grown distant to the the history of their ancestors. Izleoth Eerl was a man of honor and integrity, he fought for the Lakefolk's independence against the tyrannical Imperium and establish the Kingdom of Noi only for it to be torn asunder after his death by his most trusted generals. Now, his people slaughter each other for his crown, locked in a state of constant warfare with one another. His general's children have grown fat on the hard work of others and cruel in nature towards their people. His people suffer and I pray Eerl cannot see where his kin have strayed."   -Leon Drasitil, L'yonian scholar
War between the Lakefolk tribes has always been a common form of diplomacy. Before being conquered by the Ventruvian Triumvirate in the year 488, the various tribes were nearly always fighting each other over petty disputes. For centuries, Imperial rule was extremely beneficial for the Lakefolk, as the Emperors of the Old Triumvirate were good people and shared equally with all in their Empire. The Lakefolk were given new technology such as public plumbing, metalworking, and many other civic advancements that drastically improved their quality of life and advanced their people to the Iron Age. However, in the later part of the the 7th century, the Old Triumvirate was dissolved after Emperor Calde Julii murdered Emperors Antoni Meitun and Brutus Oeda and ushered in the age of the Ventruvian Imperium.   Under new Imperial law, territories outside of Venii were heavily taxed and their capable inhabitants were drafted to fight hundreds of miles away from their home. To add insult to injury, the Imperium declared in 741 that non Veniicians were no longer allowed to govern their own provinces, which would now be ran by Veniician governors. These events caused unrest for the Lakefolk, though they were unable to remain cooperative long enough to throw off Imperial rule. That all changed when High General of Legion XIV, Izleoth Eerl, defected from the corrupt Imperium and led his legion, which consisted of a large number of Lakefolk soldiers, back to the Lakelands. The Imperium responded with force, resulting in the Lakonin War in the summer of 861. Though long and bloody, the war ended with the Lakefolk victorious, free to govern themselves once more.   After separating from the dying Ventruvian Imperium in the fall of 862, over a century after The Cataclysm, Izleoth Eerl established the Kingdom of Noi. United by their leader, the various tribes all swore allegiance to Eerl and the Kingdom of Noi, bringing peace to Lakonia for the first time in centuries. For 58 years he ruled over Noi and the land prospered under his tactful and enlightened rule. However, in the winter months of 920, King Izleoth Eerl passed away at the age of 102, and the Lakefolk were once again plunged into war by the greed of three usurpers, General Georgiev Marloon, Prince William Karlvichben, and Izleoth's own niece, Thereisa of Eerland. Their lust for power delivered a crippling blow to the Kingdom of Noi and threw the Lakefolk into an endless civil war over who should be the next ruler of the Lakefolk.

Structure

There is no organization between the three nations that make up the Kingdoms of Eerl. These three kingdoms are:   The Kingdom of Kessex was founded by Theresa of Eerland.   The Kingdom of Wessenheim was founded Prince William Karlvichben. Son of old Ghotic royalty, William used his influence and prestige in the West Lakonin lands to lay claim to the throne of Noi.   The Kingdom of Yorleoux was founded by General Georgiev Marloon, who lead his mighty army to conquer the lands he desired, using overwhelming force to ensure his position was . Yorleoux controls a large majority of the southern and central Lakonin lands, including Hermit's Pass that leads to the prosperous Kingdom of L'yon. Georgiev Marloon's ancestors have always used a powerful military to control their population, though they lack any form of navy outside of their ships in Lake Danube that protect their capitol, Evreux, from naval invasion. Though iron-fisted in their politics and law, the Yorleouxians have produced the some of the most beautiful paintings and cathedrals in the Kingdoms, debatably the entire continent. The Cavaliers du Rose Pourple are a testament not only of their newly found faith in the Church of Dawn, but also their capability of creating devastating shock troops capable of crushing infantry beneath their mighty hooves. History

The shadow of peace that united the kingdom evaporated as the pretenders refused to recognize their opponents claim to the throne.   The only two factors that has ever brought any shred of unity to the Three Kingdoms of Eerl is their heritage as Lakefolk and their want to remain in power in their realms. The Kingdoms of Yorleoux, Kessex and Wessenheim have continued their petty disputes over territory and resources, though when one becomes too powerful, flimsy alliances are formed to deal with the growing threat. However, these alliances and treaties are for self gain as their charity seems to runs dry once there is little to gain.
